i gotta say no outline just because the outline on a game with the background and floor having no outlines looks odd to me.
I agree, this is the main reason no outline is more appealing. Also, the outline doesn't extend into the heroine, meaning her crotch and breasts look a little inconsistent to me.
So, if you wanted to use the outline, you'd have to add more outlines, which wouldn't be much of an improvement and may just be unnecessary work.
Yes, that is an advantage. She does stand out, is easier to spot, follow on screen, etc, which is valuable in platformers. If the enemies are the same, it would definitely make them easier to avoid/copulate with when I'm playing in the wee hours of the night.Which, like I said, gives it more of a cell shaded look. With no outline I feel that the heroine feels too much like a part of the scenery instead of the object we should be focusing on. With the outline she's given dominance in the scene though because the outline isn't detailing everything and instead being left to shade/lighting she still feels like a part of the environment.
