Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

Agreed with Dragon there. I would love to get in on a game like that as a playtest. Saber just told me her identity in Fate/Extra so I'm definitely down for something like that.

I'm doing Extra all kinds of backwards. Started with Archer, next playthrough will probably be Caster, and I'll finish with Saber. I'm a rebel. :D

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

ha, just beat it with saber myself. starting over with caster now. I'll save mister brooding for last. Still kind of funny to me. Half the fun of the Fate series' is finding out who the heroic spirits actually are for me.
I did not expect Extra's Identity for Saber, can't wait for Caster's identity to be revealed. Once I saw Berserker's and Lancer's appearance I guessed who they were right off the bat.

I've only gotten as far as Dan's Archer, though I guessed who that was pretty damn quick. I only really play during my commute. :p Really, the Nasuverse is one of my favorite continuities, with Fate being my absolute favorite story. Even as campy as it can be sometimes. :D

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

There's actually someone who's been working on a Nasuverse RPG for quite some time, here's the pdf.

I haven't tried it out at all but it seems like fun. I'm partial to a more White-Wolf system as opposed to d20.

That is half awesome and half disappointing, I thought I was in this territory first xD

Thats awesome though, thanks for pointing this out!

I watched the Fate/Stay Night anime before I knew it was a VN, but never played the VN. Just started playing Extra, and started with Caster.

Loving the game so far and I just got

To the hospital room after you do the first "fight" and the tutorial dungeon

Caster is pretty neat so far I think. She is just too cute with that tail and ears! I would definitely rub her ears like she asked. :D
I only really play it during my breaks at work so I haven't gotten past the first week with her.
I was in the same boat as you though. I discovered fate stay night as an anime first and fell in love with the series from there.
I can't help but wonder if you can win that first fight against that rogue doll or not. I always seem to lose. I can't seem to pick up it's attack patterns.

Nope, you have to lose. Or so I've read. I don't think there is a pattern; it's randomly generated every round. Kinda sucks to be that guy. :p

I actually found the VN first (was recommended to me by a friend) and went to watch the anime afterwards. I actually found the anime to be a little disappointing, all things considered. Although I loved the UBW movie. I may be biased about that one, though. :p

Yeah, Fate/Stay is no Tsukihime, but I think that it is pretty awesome. The concept's cool, but it is built as kind of a slow, story based thing that gradually picks up pace until the end. So the beginning feels kinda slow, anime or Visual Novel wise, to most who try it out. Though, the Visual Novel of Fate has its three story routes; Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel (which has some of -the most badass fights in Type-Moon lore-). If you have the time someday, I highly suggest going through the Fate Visual Novel, its pretty awesome.

-fistbumps Dragon- Aren't we all?

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

What? I thought Fate Stay was far more superior to Tsukihime! Had so much more story options, I ended up having 52 hours of game time on Fate Stay! (Never even took the time to jack off while playing the game either! I actually skipped the porn because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next!)

I got like... 15 hours out of Tsukihime. Game was still fun, story was still good, but not nearly as epic in my opinion.

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

Fate/stay Night is definitely more epic in scale, due to better writing and epic characters, however Tsukihime will always have a special place in my heart for having a more badass protagonist and Hisui.
I can agree that FSN is the better visual novel but I like Tsukihime more.

I think this is debatable. Shiki definitely has his awesome moments, and his mystic eyes are pretty slick, but Shirou (depending on the route... he's kinda lame in Fate, can't argue that) pretty consistently pulls off shit that's supposed to be downright impossible. Can't really do details of either without spoilering the whole post, though, so suffice to say that Unlimited Blade Works is quite possibly my absolute favorite ability from anything ever. :p

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

I forgot to put an "Opinion" tag in front of that. :p
But it is debatable. I didn't like Shirou until Heaven's Feel.
Shiki, however, his tsundere personality followed by his Nanaya side "I'll show you what it means to kill something" just feels more badass to me.
There's no denying that UBW is godlike and just overpowered as all heck, but it's just personal preference. If I had to pick between having the Mystic Eyes or UBW I'd take the UBW because the Mystic Eyes Shiki has kill his brain cells if he uses them. If it so happened I was a Magus I'd be able to use UBW without that risk =D. However if I was offered Ryougi Shiki's eyes...now that's a different story altogether.

Shirou felt like a pretty weak protagonist to me. Even in the UBW movie he just didn't feel as cool as I think he could be given his future.
Perhaps the VN explained it better but what did Unlimited Blade Works actually do? I get it's a reality marble with an unlimited supply of weapons but was that all it did?

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

Unlimited Blade Works is a Reality Marble that allows the user to recreate any weapon he's seen or from his imagination and make a physical copy. He also inherently gets the skill of whoever wielded it as well. However, each sword he makes is one rank lesser than the original copy.

Re: Nanie's Type-Moon Thread

Emiya Shirou is actually a very complex character. Do not read this if you do not want Shirou spoiled.

The Blade Works
The Blade Works is a pretty cool concept. Archer's version has giant cogs floating in the sky as it depicts that he is moving forward without remembering why, whereas Shirou's has a pristine sky with no fog at all. According to the stuff I have researched on this topic, Shirou's 'alignment' is Sword rather than any other element, and so is his 'origin,' which allows for the casting of the Blade Works and prevents him from being good with other elements as they aren't in his natural affinity. I theorize that being almost dead and having Excalibur's Sheath put into him, then living for many years with it, forced those attributes to change.

The Blade Works seems conditional. He can not actually invoke The Blade Works with his current output of mana, as though he has 24 Circuits (I think the average Magus has 20), he has absolute shit for their use as he hasn't really been using them at all.

The true power of The Blade Works is not that it makes swords. It is that it creates . Conceptual Weapons are entirely different than projection. A projected weapon will be destroyed shortly after its creation since it tries to act like it should exist but the world knows better, and destroys it so that the paradox is gone. A Conceptual Weapon however is something the world does not destroy on its own, and can have incredible effects. Excalibur's Sheath is considered a Conceptual Weapon. The key ability of The Blade Works is that whereas a Magus could probably project let's say, Gae Bolg or Rule Breaker, it would be entirely unable to use any special abilities and shatter incredibly fast. Shirou however, could in theory activate Gae Bolg or sever contracts and such with Rule Breaker. The Blade Works is where they are 'prepared' and he casts them out by 'drawing them from the Blade Works.'

In other words, The Blade Works is Shirou's mind, and his true power is being able to literally create what his mind perceives and use it. The underlying condition above all however is that his 'Element' is Sword and his 'Origin' is Sword. In the Heaven's Feel route, Shirou chooses to save one person over the world. Therefore, he abandons his Origin, and the casting of the Blade Works is now impossible to fully invoke.

The Blade Works is technically always active, and the Reality Marble 'casts his mind out and eats away at reality.' The casting of the Blade Works tosses the enemy into the armory rather than having to draw each weapon from said armory. There is no strain or need to limit himself by drawing only a certain amount of swords at once (which is very limited unless he's linked to a huge ass mana source, like wanna-be power reactor Tohsaka's 40 natural Magic Circuits).

Shit Shirou is Doing Wrong

Shirou has untapped and unawakened natural Magic Circuits. However, he believes he has none (At least at first or the whole way through, depending on your route), and sits in the shed like every morning forcibly crafting artificial ones in his body. These are each incredibly weak, and the process can kill the target. He then uses them like ammo to expend to draw out projections, which 'uses up' the circuit so he gets to make one again. As the average Magus has like 20 Circuits, Shirou has more potential than most. As he was not actually taught by a Magus in a professional manner, this is why I believe at the end of the UBW route Shirou is as hax as can be. [Still has the sheath in his body, didn't feed his Magic Circuit to the 'CG Dragon', can cast the Blade Works because he is now linked to Tohsaka, is getting actual training as a Magus, has had future years of fighting experience leeched to him by the confrontation with Archer, all that jazz.]

At the end of Fate, Shirou is as close to a normal human as possible, who still doesn't know he is actually a mage.

Heaven's Feel, it is as far as possible from being an actual human, but damn, I loved this story more than any of them due to how fucking badass it is. One thing after another.

And yeah, just as Mystic Eyes said, the quality of each projection isn't actually on par with the original. So basically, he's Melee Megaman.

Heh, I was trying to dumb down the explanation to avoid spoilers and make it easier to understand but that works too.
Have you played Battle Moon Wars? That shit is hilarious and awesome at the same time.

I have seen that name tossed around a couple times, but know nothing about it. What is it and is there a version available in English? My Japanese is absolute crap. :( I am more than willing to throw money at it if necessary. :D
