Re: (Nutaku) Milenium War Aigis (English Version)
I never said anything remotely close to the conclusions you drew. I think you're just confused by my phrasing (which I admit was vague).
My mentions of DMM were speaking specifically to the Aigis Developers working on the DMM version. They are the ones that ultimately decided the deal Nutaku brought to them was not in their best interest.
Having a Nutaku Aigis on par with the DMM version isn't going to do much to DMM's net sales as a site, but it could affect (mind you, most likely very minimally) Aigis's sales on DMM. For instance, english-speaking players on DMM returning to Nutaku, or even japanese players wanting a newer version to start or restart on. The ones who care about that slice of the pie are the DMM Aigis Devs.
The same ones that work on our game. The same ones that have decided to cripple our version instead of improving it.
I'm reaching for one of three conclusions regarding this. First is communication error. There seems to be a lot of those between Nutaku and the japanese Devs in the first place.
Second is Nutaku got greedy. Maybe they wanted a bigger cut than the japanese devs were willing to give to cover development costs.
Third is japanese devs decided that, as you mentioned, their current market is worth more than the market that has a far broader reach in terms of language.
The first or third are where I'd place my bets, but it doesn't really matter as all three of them seem incredibly stupid and short-sighted in my opinion. Even as a business decision (which will often be at odds with what consumers want) I can't see any clear merit in this. It's bad for everyone and the future looks bleak.
I very much doubt thats the case, you're suggesting a brand new company could go to the devs and get a better deal than an already established heavyweight company. When Aigis came out on Nutaku it was the most important thing Nutaku had done and were probably offering some very generous terms to entice the devs to allow it.
Imagine if DMM went to the devs and asked for more money per SC spent, do you think the devs would do it or could they say fuck off, we're killing the game. It wouldn't effect DMM in the slightest.
If Nutaku asked the same they'd be in shit as despite it all they don't want to lose aigis.
This is just another case of japanese devs thinking foreign players are beneath their japanese players. Many japanese companys have shot themselves in the foot like this, one of the biggest was Sega with their consoles.
