Has anyone read this book? Or the other one Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters?

I just bought it today because it looked rather neat, and my friend has agreed to loan me her copy of the original.

There's also one called Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. I pillaged Amazon for different things like this.

What do you think of them? Are they something worth looking into, or should they have never been made? xD

Re: Pride and Pejudice... And Zombies

There's also a prequel...Dawn of the Dreadfuls.

Personally, I don't like Jane Austin and I don't like horror books. These things are kind of...Buffy meets Victorian Literature. My one friend (guy, no less) read P&P&Z and was amused by it but he wasn't exactly "You should read this too, I think you'd like it." S&S&S, he said, felt rushed on the coat-tails of the first one. I've leafed through Dawn and it's...Night of the Living Dead meets movie Buffy meets Victorian Literature. Meh. Pride is, far as I know, the best of the bunch, but not having read them myself, all I can say is what my friend told me about them. I haven't even looked at Abe Lincoln. I just know it's one of theirs.

I can't knock it. I mean, it's essentially fanfic that's gotten published, when you think about it, but at the same time, my own sensibilities as a writer tell me it's an abomination and they should come up with their own ideas. Writing fanfic myself, I can't wholly stand by that sentiment, but then again, I'm not making money off of my fanfic. It's for purely enjoyment purposes [/rant] Sorry, that's my immediate gut reaction when it comes to those books.

I'm not really into the horror fiction either but these just looked too funny to pass up. My best friend read them and suggested them to me so...

And I can understand that gut reaction xD Though I think I'd be amused, if not honored, if someone managed to get published doing this to one of my works xD

Re: Pride and Pejudice... And Zombies

Well, if my one friend read it, it can't be too bad in the "horror" department. This guy can't watch scary movies, same as me, so if he read it, it's probably pretty mild. Bad choice of words on my part, I suppose.

And I guess. If he got permission, then I'd be honored. If he up and did it, I'd be ticked *laughs* I guess it's kind of like...who was it? Beastie Boys? Some group that Weird Al spoofed. They were like "We know we've made it when Weird Al wants to do one of our songs."

That's how I looked at it, Weird Al in the literary world. But it's not like he can ask Austen for permission xD

Re: Pride and Pejudice... And Zombies

Considering how well my attempt at reading Jane Austen for school went. I think zombies could only improve a Jane Austen book. I'm still waiting for Emma versus the tentacle monsters though.

:'D Maybe not tentacles but werewolves work... right?

Re: Pride and Pejudice... And Zombies

I'll take it, but I'm partial to tentacle monsters for some reason. Yeah I know go figure.

I dunno, according to the book "Jane bites back," Jane Austin is still alive as a vampire and cringes at the thought of all these spin off books...

There are also ninjas in the book, too.

Don't forget Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters. I'm fairly certain there's things with Tentacles in there (including one rather Davy Jones-esque character.)

Ohyeah, and Death Lobsters.

Re: Pride and Pejudice... And Zombies

Oh dear. I studied Pride and Prejudice at school... I'd heard of P&P&Z, but I didn't know there were more.

I fear I'm something of a purist on some matters... Austen isn't my favourite author, but the idea of turning classics into popcorn novelry makes me squirm.

And screw you, spell checker. SCREW YOU. I'm not going to spell 'favourite' the American way, so stopping trying to make me!

Re: Pride and Pejudice... And Zombies

I wanna read "Jane Bites Back" too xD

Mmm. S&S&S. <3 That's next on my list.
