Finally got to see Underworld: Awakening tonight. I know... late to the party as usual. I loved it. No surprise there since I'm a total fangirl of the series. As far as Selene butt-kicking goes, this one might be the best of the three movies that featured her. It got more than a few "OH WOW" exclamations, clapping, and squeals of delight and surprise from me...and I'm just watching it alone in my apartment, so that's saying something.

The story was pretty good too. I liked the idea of the purge and the whole test subject revenge deal. It was certainly a different direction for the series. I thought the lycan bit was bit forced, and I would have liked it if they developed the police officer character more. I can't explain why without spoiling it, but anyone who's seen the movie will know what I'm talking about. More David would have been nice too (I had to look up his name - they should really do a better job of introducing important characters). Anyway, other than those minor points it was fine. The action and the story were definitely good enough to make a smiling Ranger Princess.

And Selene.... Oh God.... Selene....

Been awhile since the last iteration of this old comic series, and I think Karl Urban is a perfect choice for the role. That guy is too damn serious in everything he does (reminds me of someone).

I think it looks good, except the one line would have been better shouted, and the premise shouldn't have been so close to that of "the Raid" (Which I still need to see). Still, it looks like a fun flick.

Looks good, but Stallone made the first movie for me. Without him in this one... well, we'll see. I won't judge it (heh, judge) without seeing it, but I just don't know... without Stallone, man..... idk, maybe I'd think differently if I read the comics, but Stallone IS Judge Dredd to me.

Never read the comics either, but did always love the concept of a peacekeeping official allowed to carry out their job without all the bureaucratic tape.

Either way looks pretty badass, and I think the lack of shouting actually works well as to how I'd imagine the character. You wouldn't want someone with all that power just flying off the handle whenever, right?

Nunu loved the first movie in all its cornyness. and stalone just had the chin to make dredd.

I will admit, the concept of Judge Dredd

is FAR more appealing than our current judicial system,

however I think it's far more likely that we end up with something like this in the distant future.

Oh, I certainly respect her no-nonsense, "don't piss on my hand and tell me it's raining" attitude and her savvy on the bench. I was simply pointing out that we aren't likely to be seeing her on the silver screen anytime soon.

Judges did fly off the handle, but not dredd, thats one reason they had him never remove his helmet (which they thankfully are abiding by in this movie, although other people in the comic did see his face they apparently reacted as though he was disfigured but it was never showed to the reader). Dredd isn't an agent of justice, he is justice, a faceless bloodhound who will exact vengance for your crimes. In some ways its like what would happen if the villan from a slasher movie was actualy a good guy (and didn't just murder absolutely everyone).

Saw "The Raven" today at the dollar theater. Was definitely worth a buck, I'll give it that. Didn't read many reviews on it, so I can't compare with what was said, but I enjoyed it. The villain is feasible to figure out if you know a few things. It even changed hands for me a couple times before the reveal. Wasn't exceptionally gory, either. There is one scene that had me covering my eyes (the Pit and the Pendulum, go figure) but other than that, for a murder movie, it wasn't too terribly bad. Did spot a couple continuity goofs, which, for me, is a rare thing, but they're somewhat minor in the long run.

Not sure what's next up. Battleship's there currently. Have to see.

Over the week I saw a few movies.

Magic Mike (Don't ask why I saw this film)
Some parts were surprisingly funny, I will give it that. However, I had to deal with the 95% female population of the theater giggling and whooping up every time an ass comes into view, which is a lot, let alone the one time you get to see a cock blurred in the immediate foreground. The movie seems to escalate EXTREMELY quickly, to the point of skipping entire plotlines. The biggest thing they missed is a true resolution. It seems to be building up to "Things can't change until things get better and things won't get better til they change" and then ends with "I guess something changed... not really though... and nothing's better. The childish dialogue between the two main guys is pretty funny, if not for the fact it seems like every line of it is ad-libbed.

Just fucking don't. I don't know why I saw this. I'm only putting it up cuz it was one of the four movies I saw. I wasn't planning on seeing it and enjoyed none of it

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The vampire mythos may be slightly stretched here, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. For the most part, they do a pretty decent job of establishing how this fiction came to be viewed as fiction instead of why we don't all believe it as truth. I didn't get some things in terms of vampire rules. For instance, one very likeable character should have been turned but I believe we are to assume he died in fire which I don't think was a way in which vampires could be killed in this. Another is their weakness to silver, but one vampire has his head clean cut off by a train door. And another rule, in which vampires can't kill each other, which is why the only good vampire ever, apparently, recruits Abe to kill for him, but it doesn't prevent him from beating the shit out of vampires, which he's proven he's amazing at, but rarely ever steps up to bat. However, all of these are probably easily explained with theories that take more depth and thinking than "That's just what I saw on the screen. Movie was great

Amazing Spiderman
Andrew Garfield plays a damn good spiderman, if I may say so. Much better than Tobey Maguire, which truthfully isn't saying much. The only problem with a really good actor as spiderman is putting him in a really bad spiderman movie. Basically, take the same villain plotline from Spiderman 2, the origin plot line from Spiderman 1, fuck up the entire thing, add loads of slapstick like you're trying to release Superman 2 on time, take out Jameson and put in Denis Leary. The first few fight scenes were incredibly annoying, because they would flash really quickly with some split second screen of science or spiders when people were supposed to be getting hit by spiderman slapping people lightly with his foot while upside down. Having said that, once those stopped, there weren't really any fight scenes to be found. The first encounter involved spiderman swinging in and dropkicking The Lizard, who just walks away. Another encounter in the sewers involved Spiderman getting caught immediately, scratched in the chest, then diving away into water and escaping. The next was at least somewhat enjoyable, but still pretty damn one sided, with Lizard throwing Peter through the walls of his own school, and his only defense was shooting him with web over and over again. These fights were incredibly boring, stories were changed completely, the development of the spiders was changed, the spidey-sense was almost completely forgotten, all the police and city loved him almost immediately, instead of cleverly inventing his webbing, he stole the material from oscorp, which means he just leaves evidence of his theft and identity everywhere. It was just all pretty ridiculous

Hmm, well, since my mother and aunt are planning on going to see Magic Mike, maybe I'll encourage them to go see it at the dollar theater instead.

As for Madagascar, my mother wants to see it for the "Circus Afro" scene, but that's about it. Given I had no interest in the other two, appreciate the warning, but, at least with me, choir. Preaching to.

Friend of mine told me that AL, VH took itself too seriously, but I'm not rightly sure I want to see it. I have an aversion to the series, so I might wait on it. As for your plot holes
Maybe the decapitated vampire wasn't dead? And, well, you said they couldn't *kill* one another. Doesn't mean they can't beat the ever loving crap out of one another until the sun comes up.

Hmm. Disappointing. Then again, I haven't watched a Spidey movie since the first one. Again, maybe at the dollar theater. Thanks for the reviews/heads-up Toxic.

Well if your mom and aunt are seeing it for the reasons most other women in the theater, they'll still enjoy it thoroughly. What's a dollar theater, in terms of differences from a real theater?
Also, don't know quite what you mean by the second part of your spoiler? But I did forget to mention
Sun don't do shit. They've evolved or something to not be affected by sunlight and can also just turn invisible at will

A dollar theater is where the movie costs you a dollar. Not an arm and a leg.

You did forget to mention that. Silly me, thinking that sunlight hurts vampires any more. But basically, you said that "vampires can't kill vampires." Beating on them is not killing them, so therefore, you can beat the ever loving piss out of someone all you want, you just aren't ending their time on this mortal coil.

I figured that much, but what's the detriment? Are the movies there usually later? Do they not get the same amount of films that come out cuz they can't purchase the right to show them? Why is it less expensive? Or else you would tell her to watch it in the dollar theater anyway, because you should watch everything there.

I understood that point, I already mentioned it. My point was, Abe was recruited by a vampire (that he doesn't know is a vampire at first). This vampire is a good guy and wants Abe to kill vampires because he can't, but he demonstrates early on that he can whoop the shit out of vampires, and later it shows how badass he was even when he wasn't a vampire, but despite all that, he's usually a puss when it comes to the actual fight and it's supposed to be a surprise when he actually jumps in and starts fighting, while my reaction was "Why the fuck weren't you doing this the whole time? I was waiting for that."

Yeah, it's mostly just the comes out later part. You're still able to watch it in a theater, just after its run through the regular theaters. A $1 is certainly more appealing than $1X for regular theaters. I've never been to one (though I do have one near me), so I can't say whether the video/sound quality is a factor.

Dollar Theaters are usually cheaper because they show movies that the more expensive theaters have already played and replaced. its the "last chance" to see a movie on the big screen. Plus, the food booths are usually more expensive than the regular theater, and the popcorn usually tastes stale...
