Every Illusion game has had a different interface. Many of them have been terrible, clumsy and unintuitive.
Renfield will have mouse & keyboard support but will focus on controller input.
Using the sticks to move the camera feels much smoother and less intrusive.
Leaning back in your seat makes for a much more relaxing experience.

What game is that screen from ?

Re: Renfield

So - just to clarify - your project will require a controller rather than keyboard/mouse?

No it won't require one.
It'll just be optimized for one.
You can also use a WASD-centered control scheme or click on buttons with the mouse.
Maybe I'll throw in a number pad-based control scheme as well.

But the controller really makes it a much more ergonomic experience.

Just some kek fodder I found.

Game is slooooowly coming together.

Re: Renfield

Ok folks, I'm aiming for September 9th to release the first (very buggy, very incomplete) playable alpha.
There's still a TON of stuff that needs to be done but hopefully it will motivate me to spend more time on it once people are playing and giving feedback.

Re: Renfield

Encounter tables for the overworld map are done.
Can't promise they'll be balanced until after some player testing.

Re: Renfield

Showed some sample footage of combat to some people.
This one idiot says "Oh, I was expecting more than just RPGMaker"
smdh... I need to stop talking to normie Philistines.

Wait, I thought you were making the game on UE3 or Unity3D? Why would anyone had a sane mind sees the feed and say any other answer then a proper 3D game engine?

Re: Renfield

Commissioned an artist to make map icons for cities and other key locations.
Really happy with the way they turned out.

Obviously they aren't to scale in this image.
Exploring the map slowly reveals more locations, causing these icons to spring up on the globe.
The overall effect is pretty neat.

I used to hate this so much. Lately though I found out that I don't mind it that much and in some cases I like it. But it depends on the type of art (models if it's 3D), the genre of the scene and the dialogue.

So if most of these things are good for me then that specific scene might be one of the hottest in the game.

Re: Renfield

I've got 200 random field events and around 400 unique locations made.
Adding them all in is going to be a gradual process though.

Re: Renfield

Doing loot tables today.
Don't want a situation like the launch of Elder Scrolls Online where every enemy drops exactly 1 gold.

Re: Renfield

Finally finishing up the item list.
949 unique items not counting equipment.

Re: Renfield

Placing locations on the globe.
Finished a bunch of potions and other assorted gear earlier.

Re: Renfield

Determining the coordinates of the various locations relative to one another before wrapping them around the actual globe.

Finally....

Each of those little cubes will be a unique location like a settlement, dungeon or landmark.
