Re: rpg game apocalypse

8) General advice: before you ever open RPGMaker, you should have a good idea about the entire plot of your game, all of your main characters, and the setting. This "game", such as it is, feels poorly thought out and aimless. This is the type of thing people make when they first open up RPGMaker to see how it works.

I take issue with this, I've heard creators, including one I respect recently agree that what you should do is have a beginning point, and an end point, but have the characters let you know how they get there.

I'm not saying that what you said is a bad idea, if that's how you work, but it is far from the only method which is effective.

Re: rpg game apocalypse

The best written characters more or less write for themselves. *
If you're writing for multiple characters, have a brief outline of their personality before you do, otherwise you might end up with a sullen, murderous wally saying things like "I love sunshine and rainbows!" **
Okay, a little extreme but I think you get the point.
Trying to create something as huge as Fable or GoW in RPGMaker is a very ambitious task, and I wish you all the best in the pursuit of your dreams.

Readability is a huge thing for RPGers, so make sure the dialogue flows easily and is more or less correct. Iron_jack has already said it better than I could.
In reference to finding a Desert Eagle and a book of Werewolves**** in an early location, I think it'd be best if you lock it to some sort of Developer Code as I feel like it's a Developer's Toolshed sort of thing.

* It also helps to be a little loopy yourself.
** Write your characters in character.
*** Lycanthropy is commonly seen as a disease/curse/blood ability. I don't think it's a book-learnable skill.

EDIT: When you've fleshed it out more, you could use your signature as a kind of advertising. A good number of people on this board do, myself included.

Do people nowadays set up patreons before even having any idea what they're doing?

Yes, and those projects get little to no funding until they show more. Nothing wrong with that, the market will fix itself. Remember, Patreon is basically a donation system. Think of it like the donation button on modding websites. You play something, if you like it, you can donate towards it. Only in this case, Patreon offers a system that lets creators expand on donations by offering perks, tier bonuses, stretch goals, etc.

When you view it in that light, it is perfectly fine for a Patreon to be setup on nothing but ideas. It is when you view Patreon as a purchasing platform that it becomes problematic.
