Decided I'd try this, see what turns up...Although this thread may end up getting hijacked.

Anyway, what this thread is initially about is for the posting of what random skills/knowledge you actually possess.


Using myself as the example...

*Can sometimes mimic accents, with a characature (sp?) of a Russian accent being one of my best.
*Paranormal Investigator, using the TAPS style of investigation and mindset.
*Folklore/Mythology studier.
*Occasional forays into writing.
*Knowledgable about Printing and other related industries, as well as having knowledge of how to make PDFs.
*Minor computer hardware knowledge, backed up by contacts with the major tech support personnel of my location.

Lists can be expanded, if things are missed.

Am I missing something here? Is ability to make PDFs something worth mentioning around here? Or do you mean that you can make PDFs "right" in some mysterious way? I'm guessing you can't do them with MSN office, but I can make them, too. And it's not because my other computer has Linux(which is a real pain in the ass to use, by the way. I'm guessing my current problems have more to do with not having enough memory than with anything else, though)

Just a random note, since I had classes in Printing Technology while in college, and PDFs are the one of the most common file formats in use by the industry.

Also related somewhat to a discussion that occurred a while back, in a chat.

* I can figure out most simple mechanical and/or electronic pieces of equipment, and repair them.
* I can program in java. I could learn python or C++, but I've never actually got around to it.

*Programmer proficient in Java, C++, LUA, PHP, and to an extent Python.
*Not exceptionally good at fighting, but good enough to hold my own. (both bare handed, and with blades.)
*Working knowledge of pretty much every common operating system out there.
*Very good at trying to engineer/program things that I've got no chance in hell at successfully completing. If they're even possible to make in the first place.

I also have the annoying talent (read habit) of obsessively completing something about half way before moving on to something else.

Skills? This feels more like ego-stroking to me... But then again, I always think that talking about the talents you have makes you a conceited bastard who's overconfident in your skills.

Ah well. I need the confidence boosting anyway.

*Proficient in martial arts to the point where I can probably win most street fights
*All-around adequate gamer
*Pretty good with my hands, so projects requiring building things isn't too much of a problem
*Pretty high endurance to all types of pain
*A little desensitized to most things, so not as many things shock me anymore
*Very analytical in life, meaning I can read the hidden thoughts people have or I can make sense of problems that would confuse most people

What we have here is a listing of skills that may or may not help us avoid the zombie apocalypse. That's what this is...

*Writer/Editor (both a talent and a hobby, though I'd like it to be a career.)
*Gamer (both video, mostly rpgs, and pen and paper)
*font of useless information and trivial things
*extensive knowledge of magic tricks, though I tend to lack the skill to pull them off
*mediator, or at least able to be the tactful voice of reason in strife-like situations (or, as a last resort, I've gotten very good at saying "Fuck you!" with a smile.)
*puzzle solver - I love logic puzzles, mysteries, cryptograms, etc etc.
*endowed with two corsets and DD weapons of mass distraction *patpat*

and perhaps the strangest thing of all, I *find* things. Used to call it my 'mutant power' in high school (ohyeah, I'm a comic book geek, too). I can, sometimes with effort, sometimes without even trying, find the oddest crap and/or things people *want.* One week, I couldn't walk out of school without finding money or jewelry on the ground. This past Christmas, found the book my friend had been seeking for several years in the used book store nearby. Maybe it's luck, maybe it's diligence, maybe it's because I'm a packrat, who knows, but the fact still remains, it still happens, so I consider it a talent. Nyar!

Me and all my friends have a joke that everything that physically hurts me, I get over immediately. "His healing powers are on par with fucking wolverine!"
