Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I guess that means you aren't taking that bet, then.

I'm pretty sure every Norse god and monster shows up in the comics at least as far as I remember, from Fenris to Idunn. I read pretty much all of the Avengers when I was younger and then as I got older changed over to the X-men.

I really enjoyed the first Thor even if it did confuse me that they never seemed to mention Thor and Loki's other 4 brothers: Vidar, Tyr, Hermod, and Balder. You would think they might have noticed that Loki had suddenly usurped their father's throne and all the crazy stuff he was doing in Asgard. Of course they also never seem to mention that Frigga isn't Thor's mother in the comics though they do show that she favors her adopted son, Loki. She also usually favored her three actual sons: Tyr, Hermod, and Balder. Odin really needs to keep it in his pants if you ask me.

I have a good feeling Tyr might show up in this movie since he's madly in love with Sif who in turn loves Thor. Even if she would never say so and Thor is pretty much incapable of noticing since he fell in love with that human you wouldn't mind seeing get killed off. He fights Thor a few times because of it in the comics and comes closer than anyone else to actually winning.

Yes I do know too much about Marvel comics and no I don't have a life.

Sucker bet.

And, well, since when did Marvel ever keep with the actual facts when they got in the way of a good story? *laughs*

Hear me complain. Granted, I've actually fallen out of the X-men loop, but back in the day, the stuff I could rattle off for you (and I still can about the 80's to early 2000's, really) was sickeningly geeky.

And hopefully this time its good. I usually don't care about toying with the source material to fit it into a movie, but the last one had him in all the fucking American wars, not the Canadian ones. The fuck man. America doesn't have enough shit to brag about they have to steal everyone else's heroes?

Still, trailer looks good.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I'm not complaining since I do like the first Thor movie and the movie differences could easily be explained as being what happened on any of the many alternate earths. Kind of handy that Marvel made it easy to explain away any inconsistencies like that. You already knew I was geeky when it came to the X-men, if you remember. I'm not so good with DC or Spiderman though so feel free to feel superior to me in either of those.

It couldn't really be worse than the first Wolverine movie I guess and the trailer does look better than that. Also with the exception of the Civil War, since he wasn't born yet, he fought in all those wars they showed and more in the actual comics. Granted they really should have put him in a Canadian uniform for WWI and II since he was in the Canadian army at that time. So we didn't really steal him he's just a mercenary who like to fight because he's good at it. I suggest you find a better Canadian hero to cheer for, there's at least another dozen with Alpha Flight alone. They're a little off topic though since they don't have a movie.

My big gripe being that WWI and II showed him in an American uniform, when he quite clearly fought with the Canadians as a Canadian, and proud about it during those conflicts.

We've already had a number of terrible, awful, bad D&D movies. If they are making a film (as opposed to just camping on the rights, which sometimes happens) there's fair odds it'll be okay. Let's wait until we know anything to be furious.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

They're getting the writer of Wrath of the Titans and Red Riding Hood to pen the script and the producer is the same as the one on the first movie (one of those aforementioned terrible, awful D&D movies). I want it to be good, but I'm not holding out hope.

As a random aside, I actually got to meet said producer's girlfriend's sister (*insert Spaceball reference here*). It was years ago, when the first movie launched. My D&D group and I were leaving the theater and this chick had on a hat with the movie logo. I thought it was neat and asked her where she got it. She told me her sister got it for her. Cue conversation and we wound up talking to her for, like, an hour after the movie let out. Still would've liked to have wound up with one of the hats. Ah well.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I don't strangely feel no nerd rage at all over this. I still don't understand why they think a game that doesn't actually have a plot would make a good movie. Battleship, any of the D&D movies they were all horrible, why because no one wants to see them in the first place. The only good movie ever made from a game is Clue and that's technically horrible if you really think about it.

Though this does remind me that I noticed they were coming out with 5th edition D&D the other day. That's an entirely different rant though.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

D&D really could have an awesome movie made with its creatures and such. The books seem to be pretty damn good, so why not a movie?

Unfortunately, they chose a shite writer, and apparently a shite producer, and yet Warner Brother's has the gall to say this is a big priority. It obviously isn't. Find a good writer to make an original script simply using the basic setting of D&D. It can be done you corporate fucks.

Knew this was going to be shit as soon as I saw the writer.

Which of them? There are multiple settings that can be considered "basic" depending on the edition.

Personally I think any of the major D&D settings could have good movies made of them. Making a "D&D" movie is probably not a good start, though.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

In all fairness, trying to make a movie on DnD is like trying to make a linear storyline and slap the Elder Scrolls brand onto it. It just don't make sense/work.

Ok, maybe not as terribly bad but you get what I mean. The stories have way too much flow for just one interpertation, and sadly bigwigs aren't known for subtle reflection (look at the 28 Days Later original ending for a good example)

I looked up the 28 days later and that will never have anything on the changes to I am Legend.

Clue is a classic. You shut your damn mouth!

Okay, yeah, it's hokey as shit, but I love it to death, personally. Although I have heard tell of a remake *shudder*

Heard about 5th edition, too. I'll be over here with my Pathfinder books.

Maybe that was the one I was thinking of. All I know is they basically went and invalidated all the information and details and subtle nods that have happened to the movie/story UP TO THAT MOMENT and decided to throw it away for a action movie ending because the test audience was made uncomfortable. Starting to think test audiences aren't the best thing to judge yer story on people.

You shut yer mouth and stop reminding me about Will Smith's turrible ending. I mean, it missed the entire fucking point! I'm pretty damn lenient about remakes and re-imaginings, but come the fuck on!

Though, the alternate ending for 28 Days Later (cleaning blood vessels out with bleach) was pretty bad.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Yes, it is a classic but that doesn't change it's hokieness....and I can't stop staring at that gif. I'm sorry what were we talking about again. Remake of Clue, they really have run out of ideas it seems. I wonder if there are plans to make a movie of Mousetrap.

Have fun with the Pathfinder books I'll be here with my 2nd, 3rd, and 3.5 books. Either way WotC has lost it.

Anyways in regards to a D&D movie I like the way Lurker put it best.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Well, they're apparently doing a Lego movie, so that should tell you something. And I swear, I heard tell of a Farmville one, too. I think Cracked did a great article on something like that. Let me see if I can find it...

Dammit, no. But I did find something similar that is equally amusing. Will keep looking, but I gotta hit the hay for now.

Bingo. Kids games, not just board games.
