The ironic thing about backyard war is that there is now two movies with literally half those actors.

Clue is a classic. You shut your damn mouth!

Okay, yeah, it's hokey as shit, but I love it to death, personally. Although I have heard tell of a remake *shudder*

Heard about 5th edition, too. I'll be over here with my Pathfinder books.
My s.o. absolutely LOVES Clue. I'm not a huge fan, but it has Tim Curry, so it can only be so bad. But they're making a remake 0.o??

I don't know how I feel about this....

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

S'what I heard rumor of, anyway. But then again, I also just heard that they're thinking of remaking "Gremlins," too, continuing to prove there are little to no new ideas in Hollywood.

On another note, I went and saw Iron Man this weekend with the madre (and the CB and my aunt.) for Mother's Day. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with the reviews that you see the one twist coming, like, a mile away, but there were still plenty of moments that had me going "Hot damn!" Doesn't hurt that Downey's easy on the eyes, either, and it leaves you wondering how much of his dialogue was improved. Yes, there is a kid in this one, but it's not for very long, he gets a couple nifty bamf moments, actually, and he even gives Stark what-for at times. I recommend it, though the 3D option, in my opinion, isn't really worth it, though that's what we went and saw for the sake of time. And, as is becoming standard, there are aftercredits.

I just automatically assume a Marvel movie in the Avengers line has after credit's scenes. Though this one amused me, changed the dynamic a bit too.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I got to see oblivion recently.

It gave me a strange impression because i'm going to start by saying that in some ways it has a similarity with .For those sorry few of you who dont know axe cop is a story about a cop who finds the perfect fireman axe and because of this, becomes axe cop. it is literally written by a 5 year old. It is however drawn by his 29 year old brother and it looks just great.

Oblivion is like that, the story line was probably written by someone in year 7 or 8 who thought they were being really intelligent and thought provoking. It is then made by people who for the most part know what they are doing. the setting and art are fitting, although i'm not really a fan of tom cruise he is acceptable as are most of the cast. The drones look and sound very fitting.

The story though, inept as it is, starts off with a decent setting and a few obvious things wrong that you are supposed to look back on and go "ohhhh" but instead have the subtlety of a rhinoceros trying to get into a strip club. the twists when they do come almost pass a cursory glance but are actually completely baseless (a good twist should have some hints and answer oddities of the plot) or as just very stupid.

I would have called this movie enjoyable but it spends too much time trying to be intelligent to allow for the explosions and action that would make it a decent action romp that you can have on in the background.

I also got forced to watch the newest ghost rider by my mother. it was just terrible. It seems to have been given to an amateur director out to make his mark on the world (as normal, this tends to fail, there is a reason why there is a normal, because normal is good).the acting reaches the heady heights of orlando bloom in the three musketeers and there is nothing that can be said after that so i'll stop.

I preferred by far Olga Kurylenko in Malick's To the the wonder... But well, she was speakin' French, too :p

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Sitting through the newest remake of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. This one titled "Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection". The movie is so amazingly captivating that I've decided to open my laptop and play with the kitty running around my apartment to pass the time. It's time for this franchise to either die, or for someone with a decent ability to point a camera and shout orders about at addling actors to take it up.

Also side note. How is it that in the year 2013, everyone still has the cultural zombie awareness of someone from 1960? How popular is this sub genre right now, yet it takes people at least 15 minutes to even begin suggesting "oh my god they're actually dead!" "The bites turn people!" and so forth.

Pretty sure he didn't have anything to do with it, the name just passed into public domain or somesuch. He didn't have anything to do with the remake that had Tony Todd in it either. His last zombie flick was Survival of the Dead, which was almost as bad, but it's worth noting.

I never suggested Romero had anything to do with it, but I've hated his last two movies. Night has always been public domain because he never got copyright claims.

Ahhh, wasn't sure if you knew that. I didn't think Diary was all that terrible, just... Not good. I also wasn't particularly enamored with Land though. Survival was fucking awful.

I just saw Oz the Great and Powerful tonight and loved it. Really fun movie with some nice, subtle references to the original. Also, now I want to huggle Mila Kunis pretty badly. And other stuff. (such as squeezing her butt? >.> )

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

We went to see Joss Whedon's modern adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing today, and it was so much fun! Amy Acker was simply phenomenal and Alexis Denisof was pretty funny as Benedick. I couldn't help but laugh at Nathan Fillion's portrayal of the silly sheriff.

It took a little while to get myself used to the Shakespearean dialogue, but once it got going, I really enjoyed the movie. I definitely recommend it as a very old take on the romantic comedy genre especially if you like literary/indie style movies. Also amazing considering they shot the movie in 12 days at Whedon's house.

It helped that we got apple martinis afterwards too. :)

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Glad to hear you liked it, Ranger. I was planning on going to see it (Whedon cast reunion notwithstanding...) since this is one of my favored Shakespeare pieces. Now I just need to find a weekend to go see it.

Mmm appletini.

Ooh, I might have to go see that. I love Shakespeare though I usually prefer the actual plays but if they're using the actual dialogue it should be almost the same. It's not my favorite play of his but I still like everyone I've ever seen. I'll pass on the appletini though.

I went to watch Man of Steel with a friend recently. "Destruction porn" aside, I think they did a good job with the actors for Superman and Zod.

The ABCs of Death. Just watch it. Don't look away. Don't turn it off. Don't do anything else while you watch it.

Saw that on the shelf at Jumbo Video. Looked interesting, just haven't found a good night to sit down and watch it with the wifey, cause she was more interested than I was.

But... she's got a taste for B horror.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

It's not even B horror. It's.... I don't even know what the hell I'd call it. It's by and large better than any Hollywood horror films that I've seen recently, I'd even compare it favorably to Evil Dead. Just don't stop watching after F.

Edit: Also, not all of it is horror.

... I started watching and figured I'd keep a little running tally of how I felt about each. My brother comes in just at the end of E when I was explaining the concept of the film. Then the second the next segment starts, he goes "Oh god, this is F? And we're in Japan?" Right as I got to explaining that the person suggested it had mentioned F specifically, mid sentence, I was cut off by the girl farting. My brother just walked away after that.

edit

I recommend this to no one. My god it was fucking awful. You have to go REALLY far out of your way to make me go "Ya know, maybe Japan deserved it."
