Re: Games Discussion Thread

So, the Steam Christmas sale has begun.

If you like games for 50% off, I suggest you check it out, because most games on special are at least 50% off.

Oh God, now I feel horrible. My friend bought me New Vegas for Christmas on Steam for 50, and NOW they have the sale?!

It's how cheap for the US?

Why are they charging us $90 for it on steam? It's not like our dollar is worth half the US dollar anymore. Same price as in stores is criminal, and technically it's more because that price is USD which is still slightly more than us.. But then, I was meh about the game anyways.

Usually steam prices are, y'know, equal to the US prices. Becuase, y'know, the price is listed in US dollar, not AUD.

What the fuck, steam?

Really? Because I blame the person who decides what price it sells for on steam, which is almost certainly someone from the company that distributes it.

You're suggesting some kind of international pricing ring?

No, just for you only. ;)
That's still an international conspiracy. You're just making it less likely by targeting it specifically at one person.

Honestly, if they were after me, they'd do it to games I actually care about.

I think it would just be them not looking at currency exchanges properly and just going "Australia? Oh, right, we had a price converstion table of that a few years back, just use that" or something. It's probably just a little bit of being lazy rather then conspiracies or malicious intent.

That'd be fine if the price was converted to AUD. But I still get steam prices listed in US dollar.

See?

Which really boggles at the mind, when you think about it. They can put the effort into different pricing for different regions, but can't be bothered actually converting the price to the local currency. Or, more likely, they don't bother because it looks cheaper in USD. I took business studies, this isn't crazy talk here, this is marketting.

Well, I normally have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to MMOs, but...

Anyone interested? I'm looking at you Copper >.>

That said, I am a little worried that certain weapon options will be overused and lead to a very binary game. Such as Lu Bu's weapon, for all purpose winning at everything forever. Or Ling Tong's moveset, so you can juggle someone indefinitely until they die, which is pretty much a big "fuck you" to PVP. At least the latter requires skill to do. And generally more enthused by the idea of co-op play than PvP for pretty much the above reasons; let face it, there are a lot of abusable moves in DW5, and as it's using their char skins, I assume it uses their movesets.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Never much liked Dynasty Warriors, but I thought I'd give it a go. Start up the game, and two hours later and I realise that it's all the same things I never liked about DW, plus everything I hate about MMO's. >_>

Whilst I hate to condemn a game so quickly and perhaps without "fully getting into it", I think I'll save the hard drive space.

*waggles hand* My friends and I have been talking about this one off and on as well, though to be quite honest, if I want to play DW5, I'll boot up the PS2 and play that. Or Orochi. I still need pictures in that game...

I generally detest MMO's as well and free ones tend to be even worse than P2P, in that if you *want* good stuff, you need to pay for it. I think my one friend has looked into it and before i commit to the download, I'll maybe pick his brain on it again.

I'd be in, though I think asking now may not result in the same amount of people if we wait just a little longer, till after new year for example, but depending on how we play it could be over in a week or two, on the other hand, the game I'm in now is past a month and at the pace it's going now it will last another month without problems.

Besides that, we should set some rules for it, the other game I'm in has roleplay(Roleplay your nation leader, give him/her a personality, focus on diplomacy rather then military, etc. This was done by all players and in such a manner that we still have npc countries after a month of play.) There is also a rule for no complete annihilation of a player unless it was agreed on in advance to have the war continue to the death, and no steamrolling smaller player countries.(Enforced by the majority agreeing, and the roleplay bit making it so that anyone that does try gets the same done to them, only then by an alliance of the other players.)

Besides that, depending on the amount of players the map should be chosen, there are multiple maps to pick from depending on player amount, and then you have to set a honour period after a war declaration(1-2 days works best, so everyone, no matter the timezone, can log in once a day and not get surprised by a sudden war declaration), and a minimum time before PvP starts(7 or more days is good if you want the coal/iron nations to not fall behind the farming nations who can quickly make armies, and allow the more industrial nations to make tanks and artillery to make up for their lack of infantry.), and a time before NPC war(2 or more days so people can do some diplomacy before everyone runs into wars.)

Besides all that though, I'm in.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

We already had this conversation earlier XSI :p Well, some of us. Think we decided a non-gold game the first time, so some of your points there are moot. The large non-gold map needs 15 minimum, so we're going for the other one.

I simply want to remind everybody and know when they can start, because otherwise we'll never know when the good time is.
