Re: Hate Thread

I hate having to write and correct experimental protocols all day/night long. More so, I hate stupid-ass assistants stating that "2 * 10^{-2} is wrong, it should be 0,02". Makes you wonder what you're supposed to learn in the end ...

Re: Hate Thread

Steam. Bastard thing was permanently minimised, and after some googling it turns out it's a problem between Steam and Windows 7 which can happen after a game doesn't close properly. Had to uninstall and reinstall it to fix the problem. Turns out ALL MY MOTHERFUCKING GAMES UNINSTALLED AS WELL. All of them. So now I need to spend the next few months reinstalling them all because of my 40gb monthly download limit.

Re: Hate Thread

There are some really nice things about steam as a distributive outlet for game developers, and even some bargains for consumers. But I honestly find that steam's benefits can't outweigh it's detrements.

Steam benefits developers by only taking 40-60% profits instead of 90%

Re: Hate Thread

Yeah, I am fully aware of how handy it is. It's just when I have to uninstall 200gb worth of games to FIX ONE PROBLEM THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE THERE is when I get incredibly angry at it. Not like I'm going to stop using it though seeing as I've already splashed so much money on it.

Re: Hate Thread

Steam is the best digital distribution platform available, which is about as much praise as saying that your last turd was the best piece of human fecal matter you've ever eaten.

Re: Hate Thread

The biggest problem with steam is that it is, unfortunately, DRM first and everything else last.

Re: Hate Thread

My new biggest hate is stereo types ._. Nothing is more aggravating than hearing people talk crap about you right in front of you and not being allowed to say anything about it  Like just because i'm currently working at McDonalds, people assume I'm a drop out loser with no future. not true, in fact i graduated, and I'm just waiting till October 30th to go to boot camp were Im entering as pre-special forces xD It's especially annoying when the same group of people saying these things about fast food workers are talking about spamming social security so that they don't have to work -.- People don't realize most Mcdonalds employees are graduated, and are taking steps towards they're future.

Y'see, that's when you give them the 'secret sauce'. Rule #1 when you walk into a restaurant: don't piss off the staff.

I know most McDonald's employees in my area are high school students making some cash before heading out on their own. Makes sense as a starting job really.

Personally, I think everyone should have to do, like, a year in the food service industry. And then some in retail. Really gives you a perspective and teaches you to not be an ass to employees.

Bad idea, I've done retail work and it turned out fine (honestly just turn the tables on the fucks once you've done all you reasonably can and give 'em the run around, my favorite was "The shipment comes in at 2am, but people get here really fast and buy it all up before dawn!"), but forcing me to have anything to do with another person's food is just asking for an outbreak of some hideous disease.

INSTEAD, we should allow all food service personnel the right to kill 1 person. Effectively solving two problems.

Re: Hate Thread

When I was younger I worked in a deli a little bit and as a waitress off and on for two years. It's not really that bad. I mean sure there's always a few bad apples, but most people are totally fine. The frustrating stories just stand out more than the others because there's not too much noteworthy about a regular transaction. I never did anything disgusting to anyone's food, but I can't say the same for some of the other people working there.

Anyway, there's some nice stories about customers too. This one time I had this really awful guy who ordered a steamed lobster and he kept chewing me out and asking for another one because it wasn't "red enough." Apparently, he would only eat some kinda mythical crimson lobster from the lost sea around Atlantis. We gave him like 3 different lobsters and it was never enough. We even took him back to the tank and let him LOOK at the lobsters to see if any of them held up to his standards. Nope. We ended up just having to tell him sorry but that's just how lobsters are. Needless to say, he left without giving me a tip which woulda been a pretty nice one since lobster was the most expensive dish on the menu, and it was a party of 4.

I know that sounds pretty bad. The thing is a little while later this older guy at another table I was serving was asking me about it and saying how it was ridiculous that the guy treated me like that. I thanked him and agreed but wanted to be careful not to say anything that would get me in trouble. We had a nice conversation for a little while. When he left, I found a $30 tip, way more than I would have gotten if the other guy wasn't a jerk, and a note that said I was one of the nicest servers he had at the restaurant and that he wanted to make up for the guy that was a jerk to me and left. He said he had a similar job when he was my age and knew just how hard it could be sometimes. That was just so nice. I kind of wished I could have said thank you, but I didn't see him at the restaurant again. I always remembered that.

Re: Hate Thread

Oh quite. After having spent more than 10 years in retail, you accumulate lots of stories, some good, most bad *laughs* Still, I think if people knew that you can't mystically pull the item they're looking for out of your ass, they'd be a lot more understanding than coming in three days before the summer reading assignment is due and wondering why you have such a poor selection and can't get the book here *tomorrow*

Swear, Media Play and Borders were where I lived by the phrase "A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine."

I love it when nice customers like that come in (Not with the tipping, i mean, but
people who are just nice for the sake of being nice.).

Unfortunatly, more than half the time, you get people like the first guy .-. People are like that all the time. It's like they come into a Resturant, and they don't even really care about the food, they just want to make it extra hard on us...*sigh*
Oh well, only 4 more months of fast food hell xD

Re: Hate Thread

I hate cancer. Specifically, I hate the type of skin cancer our old cat got. We're going to have to put her down, and soon.

I hate having to face the mortality of even a cat, beloved as she might be. I can't imagine what it's like to have to go through this with a parent, or a sibling or a loved one.
