Re: What's your most over-rated game? Most underrated?

I know it'll probably sound strange, but I actually enjoy grinding in video games. It gives me something to do to fill in the time I'm bored, and I get to max out stats and increase the amount of abilities I have on a character.
Agreed, it really just depends on the AMOUNT of grinding that's needed.

Oh it doesnt matter how much grinding it takes, at the moment I'm between FFTA2 mastering all the abilities I've got on weapons at the moment and on FFT mastering every job class right at the beginning. And its about the 10th or so time I've replayed FFT since the PS1 version.

Re: What's your most over-rated game? Most underrated?

overrated? not sure, i'd say kratos, not god of war itself, but the character kratos, i've been playing GoW2. and i must say, i can only watch him epicly lift a door, or pull a handle crank so much before i ask him. "you can smash zues with a enormous pillar made of stone, but you can't lift a door without struggling?"

underrated? oger battle series, even X play gave it a much deserved spot on their top five strategy games of all time list, and, i must agree.

Overrated: Im kind of tied between Halo and GTA....

Underrated: Xtreme G!!

Wait, no, scratch that.
the Soul Blazer series (Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Granstream Saga).
Four utterly amazing games, but I have never seen anything on these or even seen some decent fanart of it. What the fuck?
ILU, and ILthese games.

Re: What's your most over-rated game? Most underrated?

Let's see...First, my choices...

Over-rated: Halo. Mostly just because of rabid fanboys and the fact that it was the only thing keeping XBox alive for a while. And most MMO's. I can't get paying 10-20 dollars a month to run around and kill things, and yet, it's called Evercrack for a reason. I'd like to pay my money in one lump sum and be done with it.

Under-Rated - Katamari Damacy. Your drunken father, the King of All-Cosmos and his giant purple crotch destroy the universe one night and so you, the dimutive little Prince, must run around with a giant sticky ball and...stick stuff to it so he can make new planets and stars. And there's a sequel, too.

That being said...I have Legend of the Dragoon. It freaking rocks! Took at while to get the battle system down (ugh!) but I agree. Great concept, great story. It was actually the first game I was ever going to write a fanfic for. It was gonna be about the Wingly sister that went out into the world and why her brothers were so pissed at the Wingly in your party. I never found the names (I'll have to look for them) which is what always kept me from actually writing it. And, as you can see, I still don't remember them *laughs*

Only questions left from VIII (Which is my Favorite) was whether Squall was Lagunas' Illigitamate son with Raine (It was made to sound like she died from complications after childbirth during which Laguna was Negotiating in Esthar) and... HOW THE HELL THAT BLOCKHEAD BECAME PRESIDENT?!?
That's always been my theory, but of course, they never answered it. And, well, if Dubbya can be elected.... (Joke! Joke!)

Underrated: The Bouncer. Fucking hell, I loved that game. I still have it and play it. It was kind of popular when it came out, but it's seriously rare to see anyone still playing it these days. A shame.
Bouncer was one of the first games I ever picked up for the PS2. It was pretty fun! I haven't played it for some time, but I have the soundtrack (and love it!) Not to mention that the characters are really neat. Second playthroughs did get a little more difficult, but it was interesting to see all the stories unfolding.

Overrated: Fucking Gaylo ((Known as Halo to those of you who do not hate this series with a burning passion)) 1, 2, and 3. And now, they have a fucking expansion coming out for it. Quit milkin it, Microsoft. It's a nearly dead series, hanging on by a tiny bit of life support

Underrated: Star Ocean. Most awesome battle system ever. Not to mention, the storyline and customization are awesome, and the weapon designs and character designs are freaking amazing.

On a side note, Gears of War series is the most awesome shooter ever. I ask you, what other shooter can you play where the enemies bodies behave like in real life?

Most overrated game: I seriously can't think of any game that I've been told I'd enjoy and didn't enjoy except Nintendogs.

Most underrated game: Mario Strikers Charged Football - so much (accidental) depth thanks to so many unintended glitches that can be utilised but also prevented.

Also the Advance Wars series. Except Dual Strike.

And Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Albel Nox. The greatest anti-hero a game has ever seen. That and he's voiced by Crispin Freeman.

Truth!

Makes the most sense in every way

HOW THE HELL THAT BLOCKHEAD BECAME PRESIDENT?!?
Because he's a swell guy and many people witnessed him summon huge magical demons to do his bidding, to liberate the guys from Odine's lab?

They actually explain it quite a lot, up to the point where one of the members of the resistance faction is like "you know, we need a leader, and I want you to be that leader."

Halo isn't that horrible. It's not the best game in the world as many claim it to be, but it was a solid first person shooter. And its not dead, too many people still rabidly follow it and Microsoft would be throwing BILLIONS (this may be an exageration... but if it is only slightly) away by ignoring the franchise. So no matter how much you hate the series its going to live on because of a rock solid fan-base.

As for Gears of War. Great game, with lots of back story if your a big enough nerd to go looking for it (like me!)... but enemies bodies behaving like they do in real life? I've seen better. F.E.A.R. was good for that (you got to fucking impale people to walls!), Oblivion was good for that to an extent, but unless the Locust are filled with helium (which I doubt highly) even the brutish Marcus Fenix would not be able to so easily kick the bodies about. Honestly, the corpses fly about like balloons.

Each to their own :)

Storywise for me VIII > VII because the ending is happier.

Gameplaywise, I loved the new magic system (I seem to be the only one), so there.

Although the single player storyline is WEAK :D

Having said that, storylines do not have to be a key part of a successful videogame, and Time Splitters is a very good FPS.

Hey, the storyline in TS:FP, though riddled with cliche's (well obviously, the games one giant piss take), was a good storyline in my opinion.

And this is why I said it is both highly overrated and underrated simultaneously. I don't see how you can call it a dead series. It's like calling Final Fantasy a dead series. Both are making millions, and have fans in the same numbers.

Gears of War series is the most awesome shooter ever.
And please. Do you not realise how clichéd a Gears fan hating on Halo is? I have seen this so much, it's ridiculous. I'm not going to bitch about Gears. My brothers and I just bought Gears2 and I've been having loads of fun. But saying "the most awesome...ever" is one of the same things that people hate Halo fans for. Proclaiming their game is the best, and the rest sucks. (Most often, for some reason, especially attacking the nearest competition to their favoured game, ie, Halo and Gears.)

Re: What's your most over-rated game? Most underrated?

My picks for most overrated:

The Halo series - The Halo games are damn fun (I have Halo on my laptop for when I'm bored) but they lack depth and story. They also tend to bring out the tourneyfags and paint a picture of gamers as being 12 year old pimple-faced suburban white kids.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl - The physics and stuff are okay, but fucking hell does the story mode suck. It gets boring after the initial playthrough and can be confusing at times like with the Dee Dee Dee emblems. The Wi-fi play is also just...no. Thinking about it makes me sad.

FF Series - Don't get me wrong, the games are good. But goddamn the fanbase is just too much. The games also just seem so gimmicky and repetitive to me... Slaving away in some water/earth/sky/ect. dungeon for an hour or so constantly selecting the same attacks doesn't scream fun for me.

F.E.A.R. - Boring. Boring as all fucking hell. Even with finding most of the audio logs in the game, I was still pretty much clueless as to what was going on. The Japanese horror element in itself is just not scary; the creepy atmosphere of the game meant to put a player on edge instead put me to sleep. The only part I did find good about it were the shootouts and the ghost stuff, of which the latter appeared too little and too late.

Most underrated:

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - This game is off the goddamn hook, and still can get a scare out of me to this day despite me having beaten it 3 times for the additional ending. Everyone who's played it will probably tell you how much they love it too, but that's only if you manage to meet the other 7 people besides me who bought it.

Megaman And Bass - Released on the GBA a few years back, it's actually a port; the game was on SNES only in Japan. This game is typically seen by the Megaman fandom as ONE OF THE MOST/THE MOST MEGAMAN CLASSIC SERIES GAME. That being said, it's the first Megaman game I ever actually owned. While the difficulty is incredibly high, it's fun as hell and the music rocks.

Killer 7 - While the gameplay is just alright, the great story and music more than make up for it. An incredibly odd and gruesome parallel to post WWII/Cold War politics, this game is worth buying used for the Cube or PS2. Especially check it out if you loved No More Heroes, as Killer 7 was Suda51's first release before NMH.

I find it funny that if Brawl had no online capability and no single player then it'd probably get better reviews.
