Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Bernared just raised an eyebrow at Rikke. "Too be so young and in a hurry. Ill take you into town. Lilly get the little one's to bed, Ill be back shortly." Gathering his coat and a lantern Bernard lead Rikke out into the deepening night. When they had cleared the house he began to answer some of the questions the rogue had ask before. "We think the cultist are trying to breach the sacred temple. Inside it hold vast knowledge and magical artifacts or so the tales say. As for the reason they kidnap people... well there can be no good reason for it. Try not to dwell on the reason for such things. After a brisk walk of about 30 min's Rikke saw the lights of town proper. Wrought Iron pillars were evenly passed down the street capped with a lantern the held not fire but a strange glowing stone. It seemed most of the town was closed up for the evening though as always a tavern was open as well as an inn. Turning to her Bernard spoke "Blanch's is up the road there its a small inn but usually has rooms open. That racket you hear down that way is Brewers you'll only find trouble there. It was made by an outsider so Im not too sure about his character. I know I have had to break up more than one fight there.

Finally! Rikkes eyes seemed to sparkle as they reflected the lights before her... the lights she saw were a town afterall! Not to mention a human town... unlike what the rogue may have imagined "Thank you so much!" the girl quickly jumped to the man and gave him a sudden and close hug, before leaning out with a smile "Though~ I'll still need to inspect cabin. Maybe with a bit more sunlight, yeah?"

Actually the rogue asked for an escort to the 'Mad mans' cottage, but being lead to the town was most certainly a pleasant event! "I will need that key after all." she'd look to the man gratefully, still she'd not hold him up for long as just the hug seemed to just as much please as throw the man a bit off his calm rhythm.

Either way, she was finally in the city! Time to see just what sort of story lied hidden in the streets... as well as what sort of people took shelter deep in the seemingly cursed valley. With those thoughts in mind the heroine would bid her goodbye to the lumberjack and head over to the inn - if anyone knew the ongoings in town it would either be the innkeep... or the barkeep.

Bernard raised an eyebrow at her charming attempts to wiggle the key from him but in the end laughed loudly. "Ha! Nice try young one. I will see you in the morning and we will inspect the cabin together." Turning away the man began his trek home leaving Rikke to explore the night life of the town. Her first stop was to secure lodgings. Approaching the inn Rikke found it a rather plain two story wooden building. It was so unremarkable in fact that if the wooden sign in front of it didn't have the name of the place she would have walked on by. The sign itself was a simple wooden affair with white painted letters the read Blanch's A single lantern rested outside glowing blue. Entering the inn she found a long raven haired girl leaning on the desk a quill in her moth as she looked over some notes. Looking up at Rikke the girl righted herself and began a well rehearsed speech. "Welcome to Blanch's. My name is Melony your hostess for the evening. The common room is one denari a night while the merchants room is 3 denari a night. Which would you like this evening.

Still just seeing the town... even in its fairly shabby state was a wonder. Heck why was it shabby to begin with? If these people were truly stuck here and away from the rest of the world, at the very least they could spruce the place up a bit.

Whatever the case may be Rikke would soon enough find the inn and enter with a smile, only to be met by a girl, who surprisingly did not quite seem too surprised at yet another new visitor "Hey~" the rogue beamed her a smile "I really didn't think this place would have an actually active inn of all places." she'd snicker at the girl, who was her third encounter of actual proper people in the remote lands.

The heroines manners clearly showed that the girl hardly had to keep her act up and could relax, the rogue was not a snob nor some sort of strange inspector at all... just yet another lost traveler.

The girl blinked at Rikke a moment her training speech not quite covering when the guest wanted something other than a room. "Ummm well we do get outlying farmers who spend the night." With the girl off script Rikke could probably inquire all sorts of things.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke giggled seeing the utter confusion the rogues attitude brought over the girl "The name's Rikke by the way. A pleasure to meet you." she'd beam her a smile as she approached in all her exemplary beauty.

"Eh?" The girl turned her head "Farmers? You've several farmers here?" somehow the rogue imagined her current trap to be a quite small valley hidden away behind the mountains... but whole farms?

"How many people are there stuck in this valley?"

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Im not really sure last census was about 400 or so people." Melony lifted her hand to be shaken. "Aye the valley is actually quite large many people live here.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

So it was a very small community afterall... admitedly even small communities need to eat somehow. Rikke kept her a smile "Sorry, you're my third encounter with actual people in these lands. So I'm bit curious." the girl nodded to her "As for a room, well... perhaps I'll take the better rooms. I'm not planning to stay long, but might as well rest in the best room on offer, right?" she'd give her a happy wink.

Though as the girl finished whatever paperwork or search for a key she needed to Rikke could continue her small talk "My friend should've been brought here as well, she may have been injured and I'd like to see." the girl turned her head "Who's the leader of the community? They'd probably know." the rogue already had a name 'Marvin', but only that. Was he the mayor? Sheriff? Or someone else entirely.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

As Melony completed the paper work and handed over the key she spoke. "Humm your the only new outsider here in some time. Though that doesn't mean she's not in town. You may want to speak with the mayor though. Her office is actually in the center of town at the courthouse. Sadly its not open at this time."

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke quickly snuck in one extra note "Well... the lodger family also mentioned someone named Marvin..." the heroine looked to the girl to fill her in and took the keys with a smile "Thanks a bunch!"

She'd most certainly not head to bed quite yet, as long as the day was... a glympse of the towns night-life may reveal much more that normally people would never speak of "I'll take a look around town, before heading to bed." she'd beam the girl a smile as she left "Oh... and hey... whats your name?" catching the name, the rogue gave her a nod and went into the dark of the night.

Exploring the town was a priority now, perhaps she could get a better grasp of it's layout as well as of it's people. Was this a quiet solemn town or was there something else hidden here?

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"My name is Melony." The girl looked at her scowling. Still it did little to the rogue who had already left the inn. Walking the streets Rikke found the town larger than she thought and the path well lighted with the strange lamps. Still it only covered the road mostly and a few stray lights in windows as she passed. She couldn't get a good view of the actual look of the town. Still she did find the courthouse which seemed the largest structure in town. It was surrounded by wide streets in the shape of a square with a single cobble pathway leading up to stairs. The building itself seemed out of place as in it didn't match the buildings around it but was more closely related to the ruined temple she had seen earlier in the day. It even had a similarly sized golden statue of an Angel though this one seemed to carry a sword rather than holding its hand in prayer.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke would indeed take extra note to try and see just how old the buildings all around were, while most seemed to share a certain age... one in particular stood out "Oh~..." she'd smile looking it over, this appeared to be built in a completely different age! No doubt the citizens moved here for shelter and then built the town around it.

Looking around, Rikke had to atleast admire on how quite well built the town was! A few hundred people was hardly a great number, yet here they were... paved streets, light up lamps and relatively well maintained houses... heck even farms too! The mountain air most certainly seemed to do quite the wonders to it's people...

Still the rogue would have to ask more about the building during the day, hardly anyone seemed to wander the streets or appear awake at this hour. Hardly anyone... besides the particular loud folks down the street leading to the pub!

Well she was exploring the town might as well explore it fully! Rikke would smile casually and head over to see just what all the buzz was about inside Brewers Pub.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Heading for the pub Rikke heard the din grow louder and louder Thankfully the few buildings near it seemed to be businesses closed for the day. As she reached the swinging doors a large man came barreling out backwards. Landing with a thud and grunt. A moment later a dark skinned woman with short white hair and red eyes stepped out. Rikke noted she was tall easily topping two meters. She wore a tight black shirt that showed off her defined muscles and her prominent breasts. At her waist she wore a longsword though something about its scabbard caught Rikke's eye. However she didn't have long to see it as the woman turned her bright silver star attached to her shirt catching the light as she walked back into the bar. The man on the ground groaned before muttering something unflattering about the deputy and got up and staggered away. Noticeably the noise dimmed leaving Rikke to blink at the exchange.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke snickered... oh well this was most certainly a relate-able sight. She'd non-chalantly step over or around the man and make her way inside.

The females strange appearance most certainly did not escape the rogue, though the significance of her attire did not strike any notes that the heroine recognised for now. Judging by the events that just occurred... she was either the owner, the bouncer or a girl who just had little time for drunkards.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

As she entered Rikke found the woman standing her hands on her hips looking sternly at a man probably in his late 30's "Deputy I swear I cut him off. Its not my fault the other guys kept giving him their drinks." The woman coughed "Sure I guess we can change the name from Brewers pub to customer's pub if they have that much control. "The woman adjusted her sword belt and looked the man in the eye. "Now Brewer you know the law so I expect you to pay up at the court house." The man scowled for at the deputy as she turned to walk out. "For what Adria." The woman stopped "That is Deputy Adria to you Brewer and its for inciting public drunkenness." With that the woman left and soon after some of the more guilty looking folks left shortly after probably glad that Adria didn't fine them as well. Meanwhile Brew sat cursing under his breath as he cleaned the same mug about three times before noticing Rikke. "Please have a seat and what can I get such a lovely creature?"

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Deputy? Well... that explained the sword and a gun-ho attitude. Rikke would await for the event to be over, observing it from the side with a smile... though be it fortunately or not, she did not catch the Adrias eye.

"Trouble with the local law?" Rikke would sit down near the bar, keeping a very casual attitude and relaxed attitude "Who's the unfortunate fellow nose deep in the muck outside the inn?" well looks like her Lumberjack wasn't kidding when he said this place would likely be lively.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Nothing unusual she comes in here busts my chops and go to the courthouse tail between my legs and pay the fine. As for the bum his name is Carl and he is alright for a drunkard."

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"The Courthouse? You mean that building with the angel statue?" Rikke smiled "And I'll take the specialty if you have it here. New visitor, might as well see what you drink around here." she'd wink slyly while listening more on the main building as well as its history. If the man wasn't sharing, Rikke would just ask directly for the details.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The man raised an eyebrow before taking a glass bottle from the shelf and pouring a thickish amber liquid into a small glass. As the drink slid into her hand she caught a sweet smell as well as a potent alcohol. "Thats a local favorite don't care much for it myself." Brining up to her nose Rikke caught a wiff of maple. "Yeah the courthouse used to be some sort of temple or so they say. So your a new comer huh. What got you the fog or the cultists.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"There's an either or?" Rikke smiled to the man "Fog. Fell into some sort of huge steel trap. Left me off in a random cave in the mountains." the girl elaborated "I had a companion with me. A silent girl with long black hair... she might seem a bit gloomy, but she's just like that." the rogue looked to the man hoping for any news regarding Ella... surely she was in this town SOMEONE had to have seen her.
