Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Checking the passage it was indeed carved out bye some sort of tool. It was hard to say but it was most assuredly not a natural formation. Judging by its position it lead back into the cliff away from the sea. Its darkened pathway did not allow even the feeble light from the cracked ceiling above her to filter far. A strong gust of wind however did blow from the hole carrying the sound of chants and rustling what was left of the rotted drapes.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

This definedly seemed like the right way... but why would they carve a path from the temple like this? Still for now at the best rogue could only guess the motives and reasoning of the strangers, the only way to know for sure... was to investigate personally!

Rikke would climb into the carved out path and carefully continue onwards, if the darkness would prove too much the girl would look for a torch or a worst case scenario shake her radiance flask for some light!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Thankfully the tunnel after a few feet had its own intermittent torches. They failed to light the entire pathway but gave enough light to at least avoid bumping into walls. As Rikke progressed further down the hall she was surprised at how smooth the floor and walls were. It was almost as if the tunnel was melted open rather than carved. Eventually however she came to a natural cave. The sound of water whooshing into the opening gave her a hint long before the cave opened before her. Scattered around salt encrusted stalagmites and stalactites where small brazers burning with a reddish yellow fire. In the distance she could hear mumbled words and prayers though no one showed themselves just yet.

From her current position Rikke could some sort of large crystal in the center of the room but the various obstructions prevented a direct view allowing only glimpses of the shimmer in light refracting off its surface. Two paths seemed to be before her. One was fairly wide but seemed to lead away from the center and to the left of the cave. While the other was narrow but more direct for the center.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Her eyes sparkling with curiousity as much as the numerous reflected lights from the wet stalagmites, the girl moved forward towards the crystal through the direct route, her movement as silent as the girl managed.

There was no reason to wander off the path until she learned more of where she was now, as well as what was actually taking place in the murmuring dark.

No surprise round

Choosing the narrow but direct path Rikke soon found herself in a tight space limiting her movement. Still thankfully with the shape of the pointy obstetrical she could still defend herself. Passing threw the narrow path couldn't help but scrap her shirt with salt and water soaking her slightly with the dampness. Already her hair had run afoul of a rather salty pillar making it a mess. Still with as annoying the dampness was her senses where on high alert and the tell tale hiss of her old foe quickly gave her all the warning she needed to avoid the savage blow Milkeye had prepared from stealth. Glancing up at the beastman Rikke could see he had mutated even further looking more like a snake than a man. What was worse was his serpent body seemed unaffected by the tight space he had chosen to fight.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke growled and humphed lightly as the tight passage certainly seemed far more limited than the girl like! Still with the light up ahead, she'd just... need... to... make through a bit further ahea--- "EH?!" the girl quickly dodged down as wind of a blow rushed over the girls head?!

"What the-?!" that was one huge lizard thing! The creature was reminiscant of an old enemy from the girls past, the humanoid lizardmen called Hunters, yet this one was clearly more snake than lizard! Yet as she quickly drew her blade, the girls eyes soon enough noticed... the snake-thing was blind in eye one... just like "Milkeye?" the girl blinked in surprise as indeed it did seem like the enemy she faced in town, yet far more advanced in its mutation!

"What happened to you? Look at yourself, you're not even human anymore." the girl took on a defensive stance attempting to communicate with this enemy first, all the while looking around her environments... unfortunately this was as wide as the passage was, meaning her dodges and swiftness were severely hampered!

Rikke seeing the situation unfold quickly took on her defensive stance. Waiting for the right moment. Meanwhile Milkeye slithered around her looking for an opening not engaging her in conversation. Maybe his mind was completely gone now no humanity left in him. It wasn't like he was very humane to begin with. Suddenly her eyes sharpened as the beast twitched allowing her to quickly dodge the tail strike that smashed one of the pillars of rock. This seemed to stun him a moment allow Rikke an opening.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke frowned as she'd manage to avoid the attack from the seemingly mindless beast! "Fine! Time to teach you proper conversation all over again!" the girl quickly took on the offensive against the slithering beast as she rushed forward and began a deadly three strike combination!

The girls first swing seemingly subtly lighting up the cave as seemingly tested out the snake-like skins durability... and weaknesses!

Still she had little time to grumble as the massive onslaught of the four arms came at her again. To busy to even counter Rikke Parried blow after blow the heavy hitting strikes knocking her back someone allowing one to nick her arm drawing a slight line of blood.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The low visibility seemed to conspire against the rogue as she'd strike out, only for her blade to ring out?! A stone? The beast by accident or perhaps fully intentionally moved to make sure the girls blow would be blocked? Had it the conscious for such battle maneuvers, but not enough for conversation?... or perhaps Milkeye just frankly cared little to exchange words to begin with. Rikke felt almost stumpted for a moment as few if not even none of her enemies displayed enough grace or finese to actually block or redirect her blows! Though the brief moment quickly was cut short as the girls senses zapped her about danger!

With the clang of steel echoing out in the narrow passage the sparks flew out until finally the last blow was blocked by the rogue! Still, while the rogue had her rhythm going she couldn't stop or risk cutting off her combination!

Rikke quickly rushed forward once again attempting to properly strike the foe and test the creatures defenses up to the final finishing blow!

Not giving up Rikke dashed in quickly letting a telling blow hit Milkeye causing him to jerk back. However the fateful attack left Rikke open and it was only a moment before she felt a slithering tail wrap around her leg and pull her down to the ground. Hitting the wet and gritted stone knocked the wind out of the rogue for a moment leaving her at a disadvantage. There was no way she could finish the lotus attack now she would have to start over as the flow of the dance was ruined.

"This is the end, Milkeye-ay~ay-aaah!" even with her best efforts to keep balance soon it would be just moment before a cute oomph echoed out, the rogue had been tripped?! "A-tut-tut..." the girl winced lightly from the cheeky move by the creature, quickly pushing herself up.

Indeed with the trip her rhythm was entirely gone! She'd have to start anew, though there was no time for that "Stupid... snake." the girl would shake off her dizzyness and quickly jump to her feet, her outfit now more soaked than ever! The subtle lights in the cave now sparkling off her quite wonderous body "Alright, Milkeye. Guess we'll do this your way." Swishing blade a few times and pointing the blades edge at the beast... numerous disabling attacks should do the trick!

Rikke 34/36 scracthed: Cold! -1 to all rolls
Milkeye dead

Lashing out Rikke struck twice sending Milkeye reeling back. Frustrated the snake beast lashed out with an all to easily read strike. With a twist of her wrist and a subtle shift of her weight Rikke deflected the blow. Still it was hard hitting almost overcoming her. Perhaps it was the strength of the blow that was his undoing. Having invested much in the attack the beast-man was left off balance his serpent body unable to hold his bulk upright before he tumbled on to a sharp outcropping of rock impaling himself.

There was little Rikke could have done and for a moment she sat and gathered her breath before heading threw the path once more. Her battle with Milkeye behind her she was able to focus on the task at hand. Reaching the end of the path she found several men in robes chanting around the large natural crystal she had seen before. It sat in the middle of a long wide natural stone bridge that stood above a crashing pit of water. It must have been made years ago by the pounding waves slowly carving out the death trap below.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

As the massive retaliation came, Rikke managed to dodge right below the beast absolutely exerting itself in a desperate rage! Yet as the blow blew right over the rogue, the girl was about to attempt and disable Milkeye from his miserable existence... only to look on as the missed blow knocked the snake off balance entirely as it toppled onto one of the sharper and thinner stalagmites!

With a final piercing screech, the snake wiggled briefly on its back... before the being that was once Milkeye lied dead. Rikke looked on to the events, before sighing sadly and sheathing her blade... it was a fate that Milkeyes own choices lead him to.

Still as the heat battle subsided Rikke was free to continue and very quickly notice... HOW DARN COLD her shirt had gotten! Soaked in the chilly waters all around the cloth stuck to the girls body continiously chilling her more and more.

"Brrrr." the rogue shuddered as she'd pause her advance and discard the shirt entirely. The shift of clothing leaving the heroine in little more than her bra and leather pants! "Aaah~" she'd smile cheerfully at the sheer relief the discard gave her, before heading onwards.

It would not be long until the rogue neared her objective and the seeming source of light that illuminated most of the cave. An unknown crystal lied beyond a bridge, the waters rushing below hinting at fair despair to those unfortunate to fall down. Yet besides the crystal or perhaps more importantly the girl saw the cultists she came here to stop!

Pausing in cover Rikke looked over the sight curiously and quickly analysed what was going on... was the crystal the source of the dark creatures power? Even if the girls first instict was to just break the darn thing, seeing its subtle white color the girl decided it just did not seem all that evil. Definedly not something one could deem a natural source of darkness.

Meaning to learn more... she'd need to 'gently' ask one of the cultists! The thought quickly adorning the girls face with a sly smile, as it was time to dismantle this little cult!

To do so, the girl would first need to interrupt the ritual. Perhaps a surprise smack on the head on one of the cultists would be a good way to introduce herself.

As she made her plans her eyes quickly took in the sight. The crystal was large almost the size of a man. It had a faint whitish blue color and seemed to pulse in time with the prayers of the cultist. Some how she knew the crystal itself was not the object of worship.. maybe an amplifier? Either way it was far to large for her to destroy. The cultist however were prime targets. Four of them knelt in prayer their robes tattered. However she knew there was another concealed by the crystal she could only see his shadow. Plan in had she moved to engage!

It was quick and simple one strike taking the first cultist out quickly. However it did alert his fellows. the two immediately near him nearly panicked before drawing wicked looking daggers, a wet spot quickly growing on one man's trousers. However the one that she couldn't see would be trouble. heavily armed and armored he turned to her with wicked sharp teeth and pointed his blade. Rikke was in a fight for her life.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

With the crystals dim light aiding the rogues already stealthy approach, as the cultist leaned back from his prayer a wicked smile lingered above seemingly clad in shadows--- *DONK!* with a powerful pommel strike the cultist didnt even manage to cry out from the blind-side attack!

'Hello boys. Mind if I interrupt?' though it seemed suddenly having their ally struck down without any warning or notice by the shadows themselves, was far too much for one of the miserable bastards, while the other seemed to just panic! 'M? Eww... Do they not give you guys bathroom breaks.' the girl frowned in light disgust, though her carefree attitude would soon enough be honed as one of these bastards was not like the others!

The girls eyes widened as a armored massive figure appeared from the bunch grinning wickedly as the shadows hopefully only made the illusion the man had sharp teeth! 'S-so... Talking is out of the issue?' the rogue almost eeped as each one revealed dark weapons! Looked like she was in for a fight!

Quickly and efficiently Rikke struck down the cultist who pissed himself ending his embarrassment with a slash and a wack to the head. However the wet floor caused her to slip slightly as she brought her blade around to parry another blow and taking the full brunt of its strike. Cursing Rikke was able to fend off the next few strikes from the others with some effort. It was clear the numbers where not to her advantage, and that last blow was poorly aimed the darkblade of the big guy was far to close to her liking.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

With a few quick strikes the embarassing man was out!.. Finally allowing Rikke to breath at ease - No ickyness was going to touch--- 'Ah!' Rikke cried out as one of the other cultists made their move! The bastard catching the girl with her guard down!

Rikke quickly faced her enemies with an angered expression, as they just made a mistake! Another mad blow flew out from the third cultist, yet this time the girl had little issue deflecting it aside! Even if these cultists were sloppy and judging by their friend rather frail... those daggers were still a threat, yet the larger threat was coming now!

With the armored fiends blade lashing out with darkness, Rikke quickly deflected it as well! A thick dark and dangerously unstable trail following the swing!

Right... first things first! It was time to trim the number of opponents! She'd deal with the big guy after that! With a sly smile the girl whisked her blade and rushed in!

Rikke with a serious face chose to thin the numbers. Quickly her blade danced out a glint of silver in the dim darkness. The first foe earned a solid strike but didn't fall. Her second strike felled the already wounded cult member with ease. Enraged the other cult member slashed at Rikke once more. It was laughably easy to deflect the strike and then strike the weakling down. This just left the big guy who once more tried to strike Rikke with his massive blade. Its dark against her light. Deflecting this blow was easy as well but her counter only met heavy armor.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Once again the girls cockyness began to show against the sloppy cultists. Each one of the two remaining zealots rushed the heroine, as she'd beam a smile and few brilliant strikes later tatters of their robes flew out, coupled with grunts and cries of defeat "Could've saved ypurselves the bruises and humiliation, guys." she'd lean forward towards them with a cheeky smile.

Though the battle was far from over as steely armor echoed out from behind the rogue, only for a dark swing to cleave the air where Rikke previously stood! Seemed the darkness infused blade was as dangerous as it was ubyieldy...

Still Rikkes blade echoed out against the heavy, once afain doing little more than sparking out against it! If she was going to hurt this guy... She'd need to get rid of the armor!
