Yeah, that's a bit of a confusing thing. He is in an 'orb of darkness'... basically it seems like he pulled some plane of darkness onto the real plane in a sphere around him. He's in another plane... but that plane on this one, so he's still 'here'.

Or he could just be throwing some essence between the planes, as difficult as that ought to be.

I think it's just a spherical portal between the planes/dimensions, as didn't he say that Gig and Burrito were now in a different dimension, and as such can't be felt/scanned/reached? It just seems odd that he would be able to create or recreate a clone of himself on a different plane of reality than he is currently in, given that by his own words, every reality he has been previously has been destroyed by his own hand. It seems kind of silly for him to have ever developed that power previously, no?

Hrm, to clear things up with the whole Gig scenario;
Currently Gig and Burrito are in a pocket dimension flooded with negative energy created by Gig. Whilst they are in a different dimension to the one everybody else is in, the dimension itself is partly in the same dimension as everybody. It's in between this dimension and the dimension that Gig is originally from. So yes, whilst Gig is technically in another dimension he still has a connection with his clones which allow them to be recreated once they are destroyed. I hope that cleared things up.

So in other words it's a sub-pocket of our own dimension, just out of phase with normal reality. Similar to a Sodan cloak. Gotcha.
