Re: Helping a friend
also as for obi, he was literaly trying to push things as far as they would go because he was done here and going for laughs. i actualy got on quite well and played some games with him and his crew over steam.
I miss those times...
But what I mean by elite members is that people have started to hold themselves in higher regard to lurkers. Nunu is correct in that my time in the hentai section kind of affected how I think these days. Time after time, I see people who see a new person and, in reaction to a stupid post, hurl every insult they can, then circle jerk with other people with higher post counts and take turns kicking at them rather than do anything productive. I'm not apologizing for the fact that people have reprimanded him for posting without any show of understanding of how we conduct posts. I'm apologizing for the fact that not a single person, other than possibly Hentaispider (Sorta, kinda), had even a modicum of politeness when pointing out what he did wrong.
And granted I'm one of the last people to be saying anything about being kind to lurkers. I WROTE Lurker Wars. But in those cases, these people were acting extra stupid and were lining themselves up for me to flame them. But in cases like this, where it's just belligerent flames that only serve to make the image of the forum look terrible, even I have to say something.
When everybody just jumps into a thread like this to take turns bashing at the newbie, all it does is make it seem like the rest of us act the same way. That, at the slightest wrong move, we will relentlessly hound at you and never let you live it down. Maybe I'm just softening up or something, but when you look at it from the perspective of a lurker, all the veteran members here look incredibly elitist.
I love you guys, and I love to hate on stupidity, but this isn't how we should be doing it. If you're going to jump on someone like this, it has to at least KenFJohnnedy or Supermeme level or something.
