Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Sweet Jesus do I have a notion on failing in combat. Let's see...our very first Pathfinder adventure, my one friend and I got our asses handed to us by a pack of wild dogs because the dice FUCKING HATED us. We pretty much bombed the VERY FIRST combat of the module for LEVEL ONE characters because the dice just were not going our way.

And don't get me started on the number of times I grab my dice during Geist and it's "Let's see if they like me today." There are times I'm making arbitrary little things, like a minor perception thing and I get, like, six freaking successes and then, the time I *need* my power to kick in, I bomb. *headdesk*

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Yeah it happens a lot at lower levels and sometimes it's necessary but sometimes you just have to say to hell with the dice, coins, what have you for the sake of the game. I still don't think I could it for a D&D type game though since they tend to need something a bit more objective. The White Wolf type games strike me as more intensive on the roleplaying side of things though. So as long as I can keep it even kiltered we should be fine.

I'm still not sure about just deciding things for the virtues area since I don't know ti feels like I'm interfering with a character to just make them do things that might go against how they would normally act. I would like to try and include those kinds of things, since they seem great for roleplaying opportunities but it's harder to just decide on them since they can be so permanent and character changing. So how do you guy's feel about that part?

Oh and I was going to ask if anyone else had seen a trailer for Priest yet. From what I've seen it looks very much Hunteresque for anyone interested in the Hunter line from WHite Wolf.

Did your dice happen to have "blessed by Xom" written on them anywhere? Because that would explain a bit...

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Yeah. Hence why my one RP buddy does his best to have abilties that don't require him to roll dice. They just...happen.

Virtues? You mean like Virtues and Vices? Or are you talking Humanity, Self-Control, etc? Those usually never really came into play in any game that I've done, outside of the whole self-control bit (for Roschreck and the like) and, well, the ST's playing heavily on my Vice in the latest Geist game (Pride'll lend itself well to that.) Personally, I'm of the opinion that you can take 'em or leave 'em. They might be helpful in certain situations, but I can't see them being something that factors in all the time.

And Host, no. Heh.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

The OWoD virtues is what I meant, i.e. humanity, self-control, and courage. The way you put it though maybe it's one of those things that gets a lot of coverage in the books but really doesn't come up all that often in the actual game.

I was mostly worried about humanity and degeneration but after rereading that section it doesn't seem much of a problem because even the worst Sabbat is going to have trouble getting that low. So I guess I'll just sort of have to watch for when they may actually come into play and only worry about them when they do.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Yeah, those were always a tricky thing. Ah, here's a good acid test, as it were. Suffer an ethical dilemma (Conscience/Conviction), overpowering rage (Self-Control/Instinct) or incredible fear (Courage) then, perhaps, might want to consider whether those come into play, but for the most part, just casual instances aren't going to warrant them, but if, say, the farmhouse were to suddenly burst into flames around us, then maybe take Courage into consideration, heh.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Oh thanks for reminding me, I forgot all about the napalm in the farmhouse.

Just kidding

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Love you, too.

*mutters* Jackass. *innocent whistling*

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Wait, we cry blood?

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Unless it's crocodile tears, I believe. Obviously, if your faking sorrow to appear human, it wouldn't do to go about bleeding from the eyes, but yes, vampires cry blood. Not entirely sure why, maybe just cause it's a neat visual, I dunno.

Perhaps it does have something to do with that statue that cried blood and is a miracle, or to reinforce the idea of the vampire's dependance on blood and how their entire existence revolves around the delicious nectar we all carry that just beckons and calls to be consumed....

uh, I mean, look Fletch is in the corner! Corner God!

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

I assume it's just because of the somewhat interesting visual like Shrike said, technically if you go by the books so are any other bodily fluids that may come up. Frankly though that's pretty fucking gross, so you won't see anything more than bloody tears from me.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

So like crying pus and phlegm and shit (perhaps literally... ew)?

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

That wasn't quite what I found so gross when it occurred to me, technically you can force yourself to be able to perform sexual acts for seduction purposes so you can feed. Though you receive no pleasure from it nor can you actually conceive a child, however if you put two and two together and come out with the same four I did.

Of course I doubt they even thought about that and it's probably just my sick mind that came up with it, but yeah gross.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

I see... no sexual pleasure? That blows. Especially living for eternity.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Not really, in the game feeding from someone is better than sex for both parties involved. Why do you think most normal humans don't struggle when they're getting fed on. If I had the energy I would find the Antediluvians talk about sex story, though it is probably already in here somewhere.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

I'll keep an eye out for it.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Pretty sure it's on the World of Daftness...hold on. Give me a minute... *lots of banging and cursing*

That took longer than I thought, but...SEX!

And personally, I thought the reason that vampires cried blood was because that's all they got. Then again, they must have some saliva, too, because that's what closes the wounds. I dunno.

Personally, only ever dealt with sex once when I was playing Vampire and that was because I had a Caitiff with a horny and confused ghoul. She explained to him that she got nothing out of sex but because he was blood bound to her, his desire was directed at her. It was "Okay, we'll do it your way first. Then we do it my way." And that's what they did and she was really...impassive about the whole physical sex thing. Then she bit him. Ah, wait, no. Had another vamp that had sex. Was Kory. Another Caitiff. Flush of Life merit and she was a mage. Course, there was biting during that sex, too. Least someone had a good time.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Alright I admit it. I lied when I said I was too tired, I just didn't look for it because I knew Copper would.

Yeah, yeah I know I'm a manipulative jerk. Why else would I end up with the Lasombra character.

I think the original idea behind the blood for tears is as you said that it's all the vampires have. Then reality reared it's ugly head and the writer's realized that it would make all the other fluids: saliva, sweat, etc. blood too. Which let's face it would be kind of gross in most cases, so you end up with normal saliva and blood tears. It's not perfect but I can stretch my imagination well enough that it doesn't bother me. It's just one of those things they didn't entirely think out and so they just fudged it, it's not like I expected everything to be perfect.

I wouldn't really imagine sex would pop up all that often at least with the vampires, aside from possible seduction purposes. Even that's debatable because I highly doubt you would need to have sex with a person in order to feed from them. Those two scenarios also make sense, though they also most likely wouldn't occur all that often.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Eh, it wasn't that difficult to look up. One google search later and bing.

Can't say as I've seen anything mentioned in the books about bodily fluids outside of blood. But, eh, given that it's not coming up all that often, it's one of those "open for discussion but not something we need to discuss *now*" sort of things. Though one story I read in an anthology had a good solution and similar to what they already do. The vamp takes a bit of his blood and rubs it over the wounds and they seal up. Similar to what happens now. Of course, do they actually say it's saliva that seals it or just...licking the wounds. Granted, one would think saliva would be involved, but still...
