When you have a shield big enough to protect your body, who needs to weight themselves down in heavy armour?
That said, at least in Rome: Total War (which I trust for historical accuracy, they tend to do their research) the greek hoplites do wear some armour.
Grenades in video games have never, ever yet come close to portraying how destructive they are in real life. I believe the kill radius is something like 10 meters, perhaps more, I can't remember. The wounding radius is something like 100 or higher. Claymores, to the front, have a killing radius of 50 meters, and wounding of much further. Even behind they can cause wounds up to 100 meters away.
they had no armor in the movie when they did in actual history. Also, the red tunic is a well know thing they did do, and about half the vases out there will show them wearing armor.

When the killing blow most likely wont come from the front anyway?
There were actually apparantly a fair bit of inaccuracies in the game apparantly. Mods started coming out from history buffs Like Rome: Total Realism, and Universalis Europa. At least that's how I think you spell it.
