It's really that expensive? A cola would cost about $2 here, a movie ticket $10-15 and a bottle of vodka $30. And Finland is supposedly expensive to live in...

Pretty much ditto from me, the prices are about the same as listed above in our currency.

Of course, I can get cheap cola for $1 a bottle, and cheap vodka for $15-25 a bottle, I forget the price, lawl.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

I think a 2 litre bottle of brand name Coca Cola here in Britain is something like £1.60 in most places, which is pretty much the same for all the brand name 2 litre drinks. Though the 'cheap' ones (store brand and the like) can be around 30 pence to about £1. Not sure on vodka though, I cant stand the stuff though the bottles of cider (strawberry cider ftw) I get are about £2.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Well reason I brought up Vodka, is because it's a popular form of 40% alcohol that's more or less the same stuff wherever you go. Hmm, let's see, a can of Guinness (favorite beer like substance.) is around 6 bucks at the store. Ok, here's one for y'all. The CHEAPEST bottle of white wine you can buy is 17 bucks for 750 ml.

Basically, all I'm saying is that alcohol is exspensive as hell here.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Christ, thats for one can? We can get a 6 pack for less than that. Though saying that, alcohol is fairly cheap in Britain, and its one of our major problems. But, if supermarkets can get a huge profit from it despite the low price then they're going to do it.

Jeebas Christ.

Uhm. High cost of living is high, but If I'm making as much as you, then who gives a rats ass xD

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Wow. So the hypothetical 200% price difference was actually a big understatement. Didn't expect that. Though it sounds like it'd make for good spending money on any holidays abroad then. I'm also wondering if Norway has any extra/increased taxes on personal imports then. Depending on that, online shopping from abroad sounds like potential bargains.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Oh, don't get me started on import taxes... A friend of mine bought a t-shirt from the states, it cost 20 bucks. Then, shipping, which was really cheap, 15 bucks. Then there was the general tax that they put on everything you import, can't remember the percentage, but the point is that with the addition of that tax, the total value of the product got raied just high enough to qualify for another type of tax. So the shirt ended up costing him like 60 bucks or something. Because of the taxes on top of the taxes. But there's good sides to taxes aswell... I get a scholarship, no repayment or anything needed... and it's 19500 norwegian kroner, so that's ummm... A little under 4000 dollars?

Gotta love socialism:)

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Pretty steep, and just plain harsh how it unexpectedly added up like that. I was able to order a £500 crate from China, and they actually forgot to make me pay import tax for half a year. They finally phoned up some months later and meekly asked for the 17% I apparently owed them.

Love the avatar!

I actually had a good experience with shipping just this friday... I had ordered some stuff from a company called Orange tree trade, and they marked the package as "Gift." No import tax, Yay!

Oh, I should probably also say, that scholarship I get... I go to college. College is free here. They're giving out nearly 4000 dollars pretty much as spending money.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

nunu will have some spare days in vancouver and torronto, is there anything to do there?

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Depending on the time there are generally conventions and the such in Toronto. There's also the Toronto Film Festival though I'll admit to not knowing its date. It could be past by now.

There are also various shopping centres and museums about, and an active night life including clubs and strip clubs.

As for Vancouver... smoke pot?

Re: Member Announcements Thread

so your suggestions are whatch movies and go clubbing? i can do those things here.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Well, you can probably go north and find snow. Or maybe track down Linemarvin and meet him in-person.

All else fails, go to a boxing match and watch a hockey game break out.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

I thought I'd look around for stuff to do in Vancouver for you. Now I wanna go! Hope it helps...lol I guess I spent a bit too much time on this. Oh well I didn't have anything to do anyway :D

Local Japanese Hotdogs Stand

Historic Village with Steam Clock, shops, and cafes

Chinese Botanical Garden

Wanna walk across a 450 ft long bridge 70m above the forest???

Popular Park with nice views and restaurants

If you go from Nov-April there's outdoor ice skating and sleigh rides on this mountain.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Track down Sin and Shrike and Wallpaper and...who other Canadians we got floating around here?
