Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

"At least for the power supply...Talok had mentioned those ZPM things, and that Siphon had access to them. Might as well ask about them. Depending on what they are, those might work to help power the armor."

Toryn waited next to the terminal he was at. Apparently, he'd sent a message probe out to ask.

Re: Space and Battle Thread (Milky Way)

Siphon thinks a moment before answering. "Alright, that can work, but we'll be trailing behind in this ship as well just in case. We have cloaking technology as well, but we'll stay far enough away that no scanner, no matter if it can see through cloaks can detect us until it's too late. We'll set that up shortly, right now it looks like I have a collect call here."

He sits at a panel, donning a headset to check on the transmission.

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

After a few minutes Siphon's image would come across the screen, if the Warden's facilities had that ability, otherwise they'd hear over the channel. "This is the Alveran vessel Kara responding to the request for communication by the probe, Siphon speaking. Please identify yourself and then proceed with your transmission."

((Forget off hand if he would know that's Toryn's handiwork or not, so playing it safe.))

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

"Siphon, this is Toryn Kaar. I've got a question or two for you, if you've got a moment."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

After only a moment he replies again. "Ah Toryn, good to meet you and speak with you finally. Thor told me about you, but I'm afraid I was a bit busy with a Bentari boarding party when you left. I have a bit yes, what can I do for you?"

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Toryn paused for a minute, then asked, "Well...I was going to ask about something Talok had mentioned. Something called a Z.P.M. If I understood him correctly, it's some kind of power source. I'd just like a little more information about them, specifically size, and any hazards related to them."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Siphon nods, seemingly not surprised. "Alright, the easiest way to describe them is that they are basically a self contained artificial universe in a 'bottle' so to speak. The unit then extracts Zero Point energy from this bottled universe as power. The yield on them is incredible, enough to power a good sized medium tech city for thousands of years by itself. They are roughly the height of three thirty two ounce glasses, and about two in thickness, easily carried in one or two hands. The only real hazard with them is if you disable the safety protocols on them which regulate the power, and if you do that there is a chance the module could explode taking out an entire planet and anything in orbit around it easily. I'm assuming your asking because you have something useful in your arsenal but just not enough power to utilize it, am I correct?"

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Toryn nodded. "Something like that. Due to certain circumstances, I've got to wear powered armor to engage in extended activity outside of specialized atmospheric conditions. The latest design, which I'm still trying to work out a few design kinks on, has a high-drain system on-board. The power supply methods we've currently got are a bit too large to employ on this design, so I was curious about alternate methods. Those ZPMs were one of the options that I was considering. And from your explanation...They sound like they might work."

A series of numbers would pop up on the screen, visible to Siphon. "Those are the dimensions for the power supply section of the armor."

((Think a decent-sized hiking backpack.))

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Siphon is silent for a few moments, thinking. "Well, from the looks of what your compartment is based off the numbers, I'd say you could fit two to three Z.P.M's inside easily, though I doubt you'd need that many for even a device like that. Now powering Alverus on the other hand, that is another matter. My people's city uses twelve of them in a constant circuit to power the shield and everything. Such enormous amounts of power are generally needed to sustain an uncollapseable shield as well as sustain flight or hyper-drive travel."

They might be surprised by this, because from what he had just said, he was implying that his people had a massive city capable of... flying? And not just flight, but intergalactic travel.

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

The Warden's head did in fact turn to look at the terminal, although at the angle said terminal was at, the movement was behind the screen.

Whatever Toryn thought about that statement was well hidden by the thoughtful expression that dominated his face. "Two, I think. Set one to handle the shields and the converter, the other for everything else...Those power levels should be enough to be certain of no sudden power failures in battle."

He paused slightly, then shrugged. "Might as well go ahead and ask this, too...You wouldn't happen to know of any materials that could withstand high levels of torque-based stress at about an inch maximum thickness, would you?"

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Siphon nodded, then thought for a long moment on the question. Finally he answered with some hesitation. "Well I'm assuming you want it to not weigh a hell of a lot here, so Naquadah and Nevaria are out. I'd suggest Neutronium, it's not anywhere near as dense in smaller sizes, and it's very durable. Not quite as durable as Naquadah, but we do want you to be able to move in this thing now. I'll assume you've seen a stargate before? If so, the gates are made of Naquadah, and despite their seeming 'small' size in material used to create them, the gates weigh thirty two tons each."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Toryn shook his head. "Already thought about neutronium. Still too dense for movement in the sizes we'd need."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Siphon thought a moment then shook his head. "Other than those three there isn't much that is anywhere near as strong. I know of nothing else that would be as strong."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Toryn sighed, then added another comment. "Well, I'd originally had a thought about trying to use a structural integrity field to overcome that problem. However, between the Warden and myself, we couldn't get the emitter equipment small enough."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

"Wait, let me get this straight. You have an idea on a structural integrity field that would increase the durability of the armor's components and metals, but can't get an emitter small enough? One second."

He moves off screen for a moment, and when he returns he's holding a palm pilot sized emitter, the same kind he'd tossed onto the space gate and activated a shield with. "If you could get something this size to do what you wanted it to do, would that be small enough?"

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Toryn looked at it, then turned away slightly to check another terminal before he responded. "Yeah, that would work. Small enough that it wouldn't take up much space...That might just work."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

"Then today is your lucky day. These things are designed to emit force shields, but I'm certain I can reprogram some of them to suit your needs based off of the specifications you'd be able to provide on what you need."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

Toryn nodded. "I'll try to have those ready. Anything planned soon, in regards to the battle situation?"

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

"We're looking to scout the enemy galaxy some time soon here, but other than that nothing so far. At least for the moment, it appears we've stopped the enemy from getting into our galaxy, but when they realize their gate is blocked, they'll start coming by hyper-drive. It'll take them a few days to get here with them, but they WILL make it here."

Re: The Warden (Ship Thread)

"A few days...Do we have any ideas as to what places are going to be high on their target list?"
