VN/TEXT [Pykrete Blue] Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

Hey, I just started playing you game, but I just want to say, I think your writing is really, really good! I was really impressed with how the player initially finds the ceiling destroyed in Zero's shop, only for it to be revealed to have been an accident by Nina. I initially thought it was just rubble from whatever caused the post-apocalyptic world, or just out of lack of maintenance. It's connections like this that really show the polish in your game, and how much thought you put into it.

I've been playing the Fallout 2 soundtrack while playing SoS (ohhhhh!!!! like CoC! :D Yessss!!!), and I'm really enjoying the immersion so far!

Cheers! :)

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

Unfortunately it seems like the Concubine scene might be broken for the Insekta boss. I select the option, but it doesn't provide any more prompts to advance the text after I do so, and thus I can't actually continue the scene/game.

Bugger, really? Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I tweaked something in that scene's script before released which may have broken something. Let me have a look. To clarify, is this the sequence that follows after siding with her, then accepting her 'offer' post-victory?

Edit: Having just gone through that scene, it all worked as intended... are you referring to a different scene? Also, were you playing online, or offline through the dedicated player?

Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm looking forward to seeing your game, too.

It was in fact that scene, and this was in the offline version. I made sure to look for a newer version in case this was just an old bug, and I'm fairly positive that mine's up to date. Also, it was a recurring issue, it didn't go away by reloading the file. I had the thought to try starting over, in case my file was corrupted or something, but haven't gotten the motivation to go and grind back up to that point yet. Also to be precise, it shows the first block of text, THEN doesn't provide a way to either back out or continue, hence my getting stuck.

Press enter(I think it was enter at least) and it should progress the scene.

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

It seems I've come across a bug, although you might already be aware of it. After a sleeping to recover health and energy it was saying my character was hungry but when I tried to have her eat, it said something along the lines of "Now's not the time for that" no matter where I was. Reloading my save fixed the issue, thankfully i am a spastic saver so i didn't lose much progress, but that could still pose a potential problem for those that save less often.

Wait a sec... ah hell, pretty sure I found the problem. Could you tell me if your character was a futa or not? It might only be working for one or the other, at the moment.
Edit: Yeah, I'll wait on confirmation from you before thinking it's definitely fixed, but as it stands, not having a cock would allow you to get through the scene just fine; but already having one, say from doing Nina's quest, would stall you. That at least has been fixed now.

Ah, I wasn't aware of this. Tell me, what was the last thing you fought before encountering this issue? I may have forgotten to properly switch off combat mode upon winning, which would leave flags up that prevent you from doing things like opening and eating a can of food while a zombie woman is trying to slice you up :p
Edit: Having a looksie through enemy scripts, can't find anything missing yet. I might have to wait for more information from you; what you fought, if anything, what you did (did you beat them or get defeated), etc. If you didn't fight anything, did you enter a certain scene, perhaps?

Ah, yeah, definitely was a futa. At one point I was wondering if maybe my character's cock was too big for some reason, since the description screen only shows a ten inch dick regardless of how many times you make it larger on level-up, so I tried to use the Debug level ups to shrink it back down... Then I found out there's apparently a level cap at 10. Thanks for the heads up though.

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

Well, it's fixed now, thank you for the report, though the fix won't be uploaded for a while yet.
Edit: Oh, and the description only describing it as 10 inches has also been fixed, there's not a proper updater/scaler in place.

It was after beating a Stalker that it happened, but it was certainly strange for sure. Perhaps it was just a one time glitch on my end from my internet connection? I'll keep playing and let you know if it happens again, but so far I've been enjoying the game a lot!

Ah, if you're playing online that's a possibility, yeah. Which is... incredibly annoying, but we'll see how performance improves once the next version of Quest is released. I've gone through the Stalker's script and it's all in order, so that's the likely reason why. You could probably fix it by fighting any encounter again, to get the script to (hopefully) properly execute again. Kind of surprising really, given that it's not that heavy a script either. Makes me wonder how unstable things like crafting or, hell, character creation itself are online...

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

This feels a lot like Flexible Survival mechanics wise (eerily similar actually, only real differences being how supplies are handled and transformations are less involuntary). NPC handling seems to be heavily influenced by TiTS. The world seems to be a somewhere in between. There's a line between homage and just plain ripping other dev's off, in my personal opinion this crosses it.

I disagree. The only similarity between FS and SoS is the battle system, and that's to be expected, considering there's not too many ways to differentiate text-based battle interfaces. NPC handling might be inspired by Trials, but that's a good thing, if anything. Dismissing this game as a ripoff, especially at this stage, seems rather rude.

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

I've played Flexible Survival I think maybe 30 minutes total a good few years ago now, and I really can't say I remember much about it, certainly not mechanics wise. Content wise it was almost purely transformation based as I recall, or it was at the time. I'm really not sure what you mean by 'NPC handling', and if you could, I'd be interested if you could expand on that a little. As for TiTs itself, I've not played it in around two years, though the first pornographic material I ever wrote was intended for submission to it. (didn't get far.)

I'll be honest, being accused of ripping off two games - one of which I've only the vaguest recollections of, and the other being a huge sprawling thing with multiple contributors and styles - is pretty hurtful. Or hey, in the case of TiTs, maybe flattering, as I don't think it's anywhere near that level yet. I don't personally feel that I've done this, and it's certainly not my intention, but now I'm curious to see if anyone else feels this way.

If I can spare the time, I'd like to thoughts more in detail as to what makes it a ripoff. Also, I absolutely understand that this is just you voicing a concern rather than any kind of attack, just in case this response came off as whiny or anything.

Edit: Though I have just noticed the negrep, though at least you signed it, I suppose.

I'm going to assume that (A) the futa content hasn't been enabled or (B) I'm a bad player that doesn't know how to properly explore the game as it is now.

Look into doing some quests for the inhabitants of the Gutter. A few of them feature futa stuff. All Whorcs are futas, and you can find plenty of them running around in the north, or you can just talk to Rokolo.

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

If you mean player futa, it's currently only accessible through choosing certain paths in two different quests in The Gutter. It'll be easier to achieve later.

Hey, just wanted to say I don't see it as a rip at all. Hell next someone will be crying rip because an RPG uses Hit Points. Games of a genre will naturally use similar aspects, otherwise it wouldn't be in the same genre (it's by definition).

To be honest, the accusation just blew my mind. Now if you had cut and pasted scenes...

Re: Survive or Succumb - A post-apocalyptic text RPG.

I still always enjoy seeing new open-fuckworld adventure projects, as crudely described. Very minimal success rates sadly. Few people only do it because they thought it's an easy way for get some dosh. I could touch up more on that, but it's too messy a topic.
Some decent early-potential and the scenes aren't bad. Certainly no qualms with the notion of everything clearly having a feminine form in some manner. Inventory management could use some work though; stacking food/common items on top of each other instead of becoming separate objects. Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of criticism besides some bias against the engine. As usual, the only main problem with text adventures is writing, unless you adopted a non-traditional approach of roughly describing scenes and exercising your skill in programming to provide more exotic scenarios, you're gonna be looking at writing a fuck-ton of specialized scenes the more varied you want your player characters. If you wanted more exposure there are other specialized places you could post it, but if it's just a hobby project and you especially don't want people trying to railroad your development to their desires, it's un-needed.
To be honest, the accusation just blew my mind. Now if you had cut and pasted scenes...
It's being resolved out of topic anyways, no real need to express more discontent over it.
Yeah, but wanted to still say it as it was taken personally and it puts a different opinion on record, and some moral support. And obviously he did ask.
k
...but I'm gonna drop the issue, it's derailing the thread.
This was my only concern at least. Drama can eat up a lot of unneeded time, though I've also been the aggravator of such drama too.
