Random movie talky stuff.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

All that movie needs is an explicit Only You Can Save Mankind reference, and we're set. As it is, I'll definitely see it. Though, who the hell is that purple rhino? I recognise it, but can't place it, and I don't think it's the Altered Beast enemy that some sites are saying it is.

The rhino is definately Altered Beast (I was wrong with saying Ergist before, lederp x,x) You can thank for the confirmation.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I have no issue with Fox making X-Men films because introducing that continuity bomb into the Avengers is simply not a good idea. Modern comics is a good example of this. They've also managed something surprisingly good with First Class while at the same time erasing Origins (which I actually liked mostly) and 3 (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) from existence. That said, this new Spider-Man looks pretty bad and I do not have high hopes.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

From what I remember of the cartoon, spidey's parents actually were spies if I'm not mistaken... so the mystery is there. It just wasn't addressed untill very late in the series. And spidey jokes have always been a little cheesy.

As far as boycotting movies to get more superheroes into the Avengers... I'd worry about there being TOO MANY Avengers making the film very frantic in trying to give everyone some screentime. Which would definately happen if they throw the X-men in there, first class helped to redeem the series partly, but didn't get the bad taste of the second and third from my mouth.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Yeah, I think putting too many characters into the Avengers franchise will just dilute it a bit. What they had was awesome, and Joss Whedon pulled it off amazingly, but the last thing we need is a poor director and writer getting their hands on even more characters and driving the series into the ground.

As for the X-men movies, I rather enjoyed the first two, and First Class. Wasn't a fan of the Wolverine Origins flick (even though I thought the game was pretty awesome), especially when I found First Class did his character better than the entire Origins movie. The problem with the third stems from what I fear could happen to Avengers, a different director that didn't have the same vision and cobbled things together.

They are making another X-Men movie centred around Logan titled simply The Wolverine. Currently being directed by James Mangold, whose credits include: Identity; Girl, Interrupted; Walk the Line; and 3:10 to Yuma. A shame Daren Aronofsky pulled out (Shooting overseas would keep him away from his family) cause it would have been neat to see his vision. Oh well.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

It kinda sounds like people are getting a little ahead of themselves as far as trying to get Spiderman and what not in the Avengers when some of the main Avengers weren't even in the first movie to begin with.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Well, rumor has it that they want to do the Infinity Gauntlet storyline with regard to the Avengers, which was a huge crossover back in the day and would require them to have the rights to all of the Marvel characters if they wanted to include them in the movie.

Also, I do recall something about Peter's parents being spies from the comic book, not so much the cartoon, but yeah, it was one of the very late end reveals.

As for the X-Men movies, yeah, I liked 1 and 2. Three was *way* too busy. They were trying to do two huge plotlines in one movie and it just didn't work, considering they half-assed both of them. Personally, I enjoyed Origins and First Class. Not saying they were fantastic, but they were still better than 3 (which I remember seeing all the mutant names in the credits going "When were they in the movie?")

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I think the Best End for Marvel here is that they have all the rights to all their characters and movies to go with, and everyone's got a level of exposure that they can just do team up films on the fly.

AVENGERS SPOILERS HERE IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET, SERIOUSLY THOUGH GET ON THAT.
Whatever they're doing it will likely involve Thanos, who was the purple dude in the after credits scene. He is usually mixed up with the gauntlet, and the gauntlet was in Odin's trophy room. And if Loki is still Thanos's bitch, now big purple's got a man on the inside who can get him what he wants. However, they've taken their fair share of liberties with comic continuity while making these films, so it seems likely that they'll work with what they've got according to their five year plan or whatever.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Personally, I'd like to see what they do with Dr. Strange, given you mentioned (and this is not despoiling the spoiler) things in Odin's treasure room. Apparently the All-Seeing Eye of Amato (never sure what it's called, but I think that's the one) is in there, too.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Prometheus. Mmm, Noomi Rapace.

Srsly, though, good movie. Though there are a couple parts that made me go "wait, did we just miss something?"/"did they just cut shit out?"

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

It's possible. Look at Kingdom of Heaven, the director's cut added almost as much footage as one of the Lord of the Rings special editions, and completely changed the movie. Hell, the same thing even happened with Aliens, and while it was done by James Cameron and not Ridley Scott, it's the same universe.

So, keep an eye out for special editions later on then?

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I hope that Ridley Scott will make sequel for it, as he promised some time ago.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Well, time to weigh in slightly, after hearing a few tidbits.

Sleeping Beauty? Live-Action? I am .

Also...Great Gatsby in 3D. WHY?

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Hmm... live action sleeping beauty that isn't about a bunch of creepy guys fucking sleeping women. Colour me intrigued.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

So I saw the Avengers last weekend.

Glorious movie. Absolutely glorious. Joss Whedon finally made it.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Friend of mine went to see it and she is absolutely enamored of Loki thanks to it. "I kind of want to see Thor now. Is he in it?" "He's kinda the villain, so...yeah, Loki's in the movie." "Bite me." But Avengers sort of served as a gateway movie for her. Like I said, she want to see Thor and Captain America (so do I, though) and she and I watched First Class the other day, too, and she kinda wants to look into the comics for that now. We'll see how that goes.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

So many good comics... tell her to try and not stick with simply Marvel or DC.

Also, just watched a movie called "The Collapse". Without spoiling anything, the movie is about the end of the world and a family of four trying to make their way out from a ruined city, through the forests, and find their son at a farming community. The film revolves around them attempting to survive whilst being hunted by raiders essentially, and dwindling food supplies. All the while, there is something lurking within the forest.

All in all, a decent movie actually made rather good by its ending. Some of the walking through the forest scenes seemed to drag on, and the stupidity of some characters really irked me. I'd like a horror flick where the females talk a big game but falter as soon as something looks at them funny. Please? Pretty please? Come on, even action movies are doing it now!
