Re: Hate Thread

Stat pay? I don't know what that is, and I probably don't get it. I'm not allowed to get overtime either.

Wow, that sucks. I generally have to work bank holidays as well, Christmas day/Boxing day/New Years day being the only exceptions and I get about double my hourly rate. For overtime I get 1.5x my hourly rate.

I'd say "I'm pretty sure that's illegal", but considering we're talking about US, I'm not so certain.

I'm pretty sure it isn't, and even if it was it would require high power lawyers to get anywhere and thus negate any benefit of suing.

That's basically what unions are for, but again since it's the US we're talking about...

Re: Hate Thread

This. Just this.

Re: Hate Thread

Wow, I honestly didn't see that coming.

Unions.... *cracks up laughing*.

Oh believe me, that should be a synonym with "non-existent" here, where workers have been tricked into thinking the guys at the top are protecting them against "the ev0l unions!!!!111"

Re: Hate Thread

Unions are useless moneygrubbing groups that look after their own interests and won't offer support to someone if the issue is too controversial. The only thing they're good for is pushing pay rates and benefits up by having a strong saturation in the workforce, which likely only accomplished raising the cost of living.

I speak from experience at the first part, where they didn't even bother responding to something raised by a paying member.

Re: Hate Thread

i hate the fact ive been out since 7 am and i got home around 6 pm, and my grandpa calls me up and asks if i can go pickup some Tissue packs. Uh, no man, you had my number, didn't call me all day, and now you Think im going to randomly go out to a store for you? No man. Make the call when im out or no store runs for you.

It's just another example of taxes paranoia in the US. If someone doesn't belong to a union, they think they are paying higher taxes so other people can have benefits they don't get. So....they don't like them, and it's a vicious cycle of people not belonging to unions, being jealous of others that do belong, and basically wanting to get rid of them altogether.

The weird thing is that a lot of the things unions have been best for aren't even tax related. A lot of progress in improving work conditions, requiring lots of breaks during the day, getting some holidays off, that sorta thing. Exactly the kinda stuff Newbie is having trouble with. :(

But yeah, I agree they can be self centered. When the benefits are more excessive like those at GM, the company hires less people and makes it harder for people to find work... It might be good for the few who get hired but not for the working class as a whole. I guess I'm pretty "meh" about unions one way or the other... =P

Also unrelated hate: As I was writing this post, I had a dinner plate on my lap and spilled broccoli all over myself. UGH!

Re: Hate Thread

Unions are a good thing up unto a point. When they start getting so greedy and mollycoddling to the workers, the companies who have to answer to shareholders that only care about the bottom line start to consider outsourcing - and then you're not doing workers any favors.

Re: Hate Thread

this topic bores me, talk about something else.

Re: Hate Thread

I hate that people feel they have to steal someone else's dog when there are perfectly loveable ones in the shelter that need homes.

How does one "steal" a dog and get away with it 0_o

My boyfriend's family left the dog in the backyard on the 4th like they usually do when they go to watch the fireworks. Someone opened the gate and took her.

If she runs away she's back in an hour, it's been two days.

Re: Hate Thread

Hmm... was it microchipped (I'm guessing no), but I'd just love to see something like that used to bust thieves, rather then the normal use.

Re: Hate Thread

I don't think she was. It's a pretty expensive thing and they don't have that much extra money
