A quick run through of the usual news sources I go to, they all agree it's a bomb. The vast majority say there were many devices, most of which didn't go off. Most also point to the middle east, but few agree on where exactly (which could just be finger waving). One says the bomb was targeted at the department of oil and energy...

There's a lot of guesswork being done by the media, especially by CNN... They reported two explosions, while it was only one. As to the perpetrators, no- one knows, the investigation has just started, and there are no claims of responsibility that have come out yet.

I do find it odd, however, that the positioning and timing was as it was. Had they chosen another time, or just moved the epicentre some fifty meters, I think the result would have been far worse. Luckily they didn't.

Maybe unconnected, but there was an attack at a Youth politics camp today as well, a guy dressed up as a cop and came in and started shooting. He has now been apprehended but the police think there may be explosives targeted at the camp as well.

As a side note. The shooter was a tall blonde Caucasian male.

For a country where the major newspapers report on cats and celebrities... This is a lot to take in.

EDIT: There was a man fitting his description in oslo city center... Police are investigating.

Glad to hear that you're okay, Wonder. Keep us posted. Safe wishes and prayers to those affected, but you haven't been mentioning too many casualties, so I'll take that as a good sign.

OK, small update... The shooter at the youth camp was involved in the bombing.

Remember how I said it was an odd time and place to set off a bomb in Oslo? Well, it probably served its purpose, because it made the police deploy pretty much all available personnel in Oslo... The shooter on the youth camp was therefore able to run around and kill what we now know was over 80 teenagers.

Among the people on the island was an acquaintance of mine... He's still missing... His father got a message saying "We're hiding in the bushes, there's a man shooting people."

...

This feels very surreal.

Yup... And they're still counting...

I'm assuming the guy I know is dead. Still no word from him. If he had escaped he should've been able to contact his mother and father at least.

Best case scenario is that he's lying in a hospital in a coma, but is stable. Times are dire when that's your best case.

Lightning struck very near my house this morning, my window was open. Was asleep, so I didn't really hear the details of the sound, I just knew it was a loud boom. Jumped out of bed, and just waited hoping for another round of thunder so I could know it wasn't another bomb.

Yeah, this is going to change Norway.

When I heard of the bombing, my thoughts jumped to you. Glad you're okay.

Apparently the man that shot the teenagers is a right-wing anti-islamist. Police thinks he's not part of a bigger organisation, though they did arrest another man. The news source I'm looking at guesses that the attacks were politically motivated.

WB, i know it might not mean much fro the internet, like Copper said... but -hugs tight- I'm glad you're safe and even if it might not mean much to you personally... I'm praying for you and all the victims, especially those poor kids.

Well, the wisdom teeth are out. Apparently mine were extra-easy to remove and the actual extraction took less then 5 mins, compared to 7-8 for numbing and 15 waiting for the dentist to get back from lunch...

Sitting at home with gauze and ice pack. The numby stuff is just starting to wear off but I got the Vicoden from the pharmacy :)
