Multiplayer Gaming

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

I'm not sure of the pronunciation of "wippien". Is it kind of like "wiping" or is it "whipping"? Either way, you correct Ku.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Go play a GOOD game like MW2 or Halo 3.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

It's free, you have no excuse not to get this game.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

I'll download it next time I get on steam.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Keeps telling me the servers are too busy.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Probably because everyone in places that aren't Australia are overwhelming the steam servers. But it was midmorning when I got it, so it was delicious low traffic time for games.

Because the game doesn't really have a manual, I present

Stuff Incubus has worked out from Alien Swarm by playing the offline lern2play mode

There are 4 classes, Officer, Special Weapons, Medic and Tech.

The officer may initially seem irrelevant, what can he do that makes him worth taking rather than, say, two heavy weapons characters? He projects an aura of leadership, which increases the damage output and resistance of nearby allies. He also gets to carry the Vindicator shotgun, which is like, fuck-off OP.

Your special weapons/heavy weapons has access to, well, you can kinda guess.

Medic can heal. Hurr durr. Also cure alien infections, apparently. In the offline training mode, they don't see a lot of mileage, because there's only one type of enemy and most of the damage you take is probably friendly fire.

By the way, there's friendly fire.

Tech sees the most mileage in the offline mission, as he can hack through access panels, weld and unweld doors, and drop a limited number of ammo crates to keep the team fighting. There appears to be some ammo crates on the map in addition, but in the offline practice, there was only one, so it seems likely that the tech is the main source of ammo. They also carry the motion scanner, so you can get hostile beeps on the minimap.

Now, each class can customise their loadout pre-mission, so it's entirely possible that say, a heavy weapons specialist may be able to pick up dropable ammo crates, but I haven't checked this. Some things are restricted to certain classes.

When you reload, any ammo left in your clip is wasted, so keep this in mind if you've only fired off a few shots. You can also do a gears or war style perfect reload and finish loading faster, or jam the thing and take longer if you mistime it.

Oh, and remember to use secondary weapon. Mouse 3 will fire them, if you've got a capable weapon equipped. For the standard assault rifle, this is grenades. You don't have many, but they can be useful.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

I started downloading it but I got bored of waiting (it was taking hours to download), so I just played Bad Company 2 for a few hours.

It's starting again now, gonna take another hour or so. We'll see how it is. I've heard it's really good, especially for a free game.

Except that I'm not interested and don't have steam.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Leveling up in this game is vital, as you can probably imagine. I was in a game with my friends who downloaded the game faster than I did. They were already level nine while I was level two. I got killed off pretty quickly. Also I only got to level two before rage quitting.Apparently you unlock items as you level. My friend got a medigun for the medic, for instance.

Also, there's an achievement in this game that can allow you to unlock a hat in TF2. I think it's the one where you complete two co-op missions online.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Yeah, the quality of the game is quite high, but we'd expect as much from Valve.

The only drawback is the game is very short @ 7 missions long, which take 10 minutes at most to finish each. But they've released the full editing stuff with the game, so it won't be long before the modders and map makers all have their own campaigns up as well.

Plus there's achievement whoring to be done to artificially lengthen gameplay =D

Levelling up isn't as important as Darkfire says; he just sucks. Many of the unlocks are sidegrades, or fluffy extras you don't need. The main gear you start with is enough to carry through normal difficulty and even hard. I've mostly played the officer class, and their vindicated shotgun, as mentioned, is more or less the only weapon I ever use outside of situational things. And if you need specific weapon you haven't unlocked for the mission, it provides, such as in the situations you need the flamer or mining laser.

Don't get me wrong, some of the unlocks are awesome, the PDW for example, dual machine guns, deal a massive amount of damage, but you'll chew through your ammo ridiculously fast. My group seemed to love the tesla cannon, ebcause you cannot friendly fire with it, and it slows enemies and deals damage overtime, but personally, I think the damage is too small. A good support weapon, but there was a reason I had the most kills almost every map.

Oh, yeah, and the medigun is crap unless you're going for a speedrun.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Well, I downloaded the game, and so far I like it. I do kind of wish you gained some amount of health on level-up, even just 1 hp, but that's just personal preference.

So far, haven't been able to really play any class BUT medic, since I've only been able to play in pubs, and apparently in pubs, I'm the only one with the sense to say 'hey, maybe I should play medic, because there are parasites that will kill us if I don't keep heals on them.'

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Yeah, about being medic. It's insanely hard to be a good medic when your team is RUNNING AWAY FROM YOUR MAGIC FIELD OF HEALING HURR.

In my opinion, I think the medigun is designed to keep idiots alive, rather than act as an alternative to the med packs.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Well honestly, you can't blame them too much. Staying stationary, even in the medic's healing field, will get you killed pretty quickly.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Yes, I can blame them. Because all of the monsters died, they're below half life, and run ahead as fast as they can to spawn the next wave, where the camera zooms in to give me a chuckle~

~Stupid faggot has been killed in action~

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Don't you have any friends to play with? Or are those the best friends you can get?

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

Those are the best friends I can get, yo. And the latest game I played was with only one friend, who happened to have a couple of terribad buddies.

Makes me rage that I get a game over when the suicidal Tech guy gets wasted after getting gangraped in a corner, far ahead of us.

Re: Multiplayer Gaming

You should join MY group. We're exactly the same, only we don't die because we're headstrong. We just suck incredibly against anything that's moving (basically every enemy).
