Cheryl kept the gun pointed at him, opening her mouth to speak. "What exactly do you mean 'serve a purpose?' she asks, her thumb pulling back the hammer on her 9mm with a click. The man in the weird wolf hat turned his head slightly to look over at her, then began to speak himself. "The Legion is expanding it's reach westward. Many of our agents are known by their faces in this region, and as such, we cannot get messages to them any longer. We've been looking for someone who might be dependable and won't look conspicuous. You are that person." he speaks, his tone calm, but still carrying that hint of deadly intent behind it. "Deliver a message to one of our operatives, and he will either give you further instructions, or send you on your way. If you decline this task, you will die. That pistol you hold is as useless as a twig in these confined spaces." he speaks, Cheryl contemplating the choices.

Cheryl thinks the offer over for all of two seconds, then speaks "I don't work for your kind. I've heard stories about the Legion. Now go rot in a hole." she states, pulling the trigger on her pistol. But before the hammer could strike the butt of the gun, the man had leaned his head forward enough for the bullet to barely skim his wolf pelt, as he used his momentum to reach his right hand out and grasp under her shoulder, all of his weight focused on bringing her down with him as he fell forward, his left hand also reaching up and punching her in the solarplexus on the way down, knocking the wind from her. He himself had gone into a kneel to slow his own momentum.
She collapsed to the ground, her pistol clattering to the floor a few feet from her as he stood. "A worthy effort. It just goes to show that you are of use to us. I will give you one last chance at redemption. Accept our offer, or face the wrath of Caesar himself." he states, looking about for his glasses, which had fallen from his eyes during the fight. He spotted them lying across the floor, and moved to pick them up.

Cheryl groans as she struggles to sit up, the man reaching down and picking up his sunglasses, planting them on his face and turning around to look at her. "Okay, okay. I'll help you. Where's this 'Operative' you need me to deliver a message to?" she says, then coughs twice, rubbing her stomach where he had hit her. "There is an old gas station north of the town known as Novac. Rap on the door four times, and say you were sent by Vulpes Inculta. Hand them this envelope, and they will reward you, then send you on your way, or give you another task. Either way, it would be wise to complete this task. We have eyes everywhere." he states, handing Cheryl the envelope, which she stashes in her left boot. He then nods and begins to walk down out of the building, Cheryl soon following, and, much to her surprise, the town was completely empty.

Cheryl decided it was time to exit the town, and continue eastward, entering a canyon where several raiders seemed to have once been hiding in ambush, thought their bodies now lay motionless ahead of her. The bodies looked looted, meaning she wasn't going to find anything of value, but at least she didn't have to fight them. As she continued, she eventually made it to a small ranch, where several people were hard at work harvesting a crop of corn. She decided to ask for directions, and one of the workers told her that there was a town north of here, named Novac, which was the only place she knew of that she could go.
She thanked the worker, and departed north, heading for Novac. Along the way, she stopped, hearing noises in the cliffs along the highway she was traveling along. When she looked up, three members of the Viper gang standing there with guns aimed at her, two 10mm pistols and one aiming a Hunting Rifle at her. She gulped, and looked about for cover, noting a large rock in the vicinity.
