Ok, I reckon there's a fair bit of Weeaboos on this forum, and I wanna know what cool stuffs can you do in Japan? What do buy, what to eat, that kind of thing...

I would also appreciate it if you mix in some crazy ass stuff here... 'cause I'm asking on behalf of a friend:p

EDIT:
As of 2010.04.21 this thread is for gathering stuff about getting to japan as well as being there.

If possible, could I rename this thread the "What to do in japan, and how to get there." Thread?

Buy used panties from vending machines?

Re: What to do in Japan

Buy hentai games where you get to do all kinds of kinky stu--
Oh, wait...

Re: What to do in Japan

You'd go there to try everything. Try different food every day because it'd be different there. (Sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, yakisoba etc..) Explore historic sites like temples, forts, palaces. Go clubbing maybe check out the nightlife.. You could always go to Disneyland (it's in japan) and ninja theme parks (might wanna research that one).. Cherry blossom viewing, festivals

Chibi beat me to it...

There's also the sticker/photo machines of naked women. Me, I'd go shopping, personally. I know of one Doujinshi store over there that I might be able to at least get you a name of, if you're interested. Other than that, I'm out *laughs*

I think it all depends on where in Japan you go as to what you'll have access to. One thing that sounded interesting to me (and bear in mind, I got this from an author note in a manga, so I'm not sure how readily available this is anymore) but there's Ninja Houses that you can visit (trap doors, secret panels, stealthy things. Author was very enthusiastic about it.) Sounds cool if you're a ninja fan, too.

Honestly, if it were me, this. I would want to learn about the country and the culture. Historical sites, modern restaurants/shops/museums/art galleries/etc.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about Japan so I don't know about specifics. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial, certainly.

Re: What to do in Japan

Yeah copper that's what I meant my ninja theme park :D. Your description is better though.

Re: What to do in Japan

Grab a girl's ass on the subway. jus liek in anime!!!!

Re: What to do in Japan

There are really only two places I can add to go to in Japan: Akihabara, the otaku centre, and Tsuruga, to pay your respects to the greatest space battleship and crew to have ever existed. Without them, we would have gone extinct in 2200...

*Salutes, Japanese SDF plays the theme tune*

There's a huge aquarium there too, can't remember where it is, but it's the second largest aquarium in the world.
(The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta being the biggest. *Proud* )

Kill yourself.

To be fair, this isn't an activity as easily limited to japan as the rest on this list. Committing sepuku atop the steps of the capital building wearing samurai armor you got from a gift shop is one thing, but just killing yourself for no reason is boring.

Re: What to do in Japan

OK, this time it's my turn planning for Japan. Me and a friend were originally going to go this year, but we ran into some obstacles. I've been a little disappointed that I couldn't go this year, so next year I'm going, hell or high water. I'll bloody swim if I must.

This leads me to a question. Do any of you people have experience with exchange/summer programs or anything like that in Japan? Or maybe have a site with a listing of such programs?

For anyone else interested in something like this, I'm gonna be posting all my findings here.

Currently I'm using this page:

For finding programs.

Re: What to do in Japan

weeaboos ITT

cept for dark and I ofc because all we suggested was sexually assaulting women

Re: What to do in Japan

I'd consider skiing in Nagano, definitely riding the Shinkansen bullet train, and going clubbing in Rappongi. Though be forewarned, some of the women at the clubs will try to drug/rob you. Try the sushi-go-rounds and maybe a yakiniku joint. If you get a chance to visit the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on December 23 or January 2, you might get to see the Imperial Family (public appearances on those days to celebrate the Emperor's birthday and the New Year). Check out the Tokyo Tower. Visit an Onsen. Watch a baseball game (the Japanese are BIG baseball fans). Also, go see some Sumo. Sumo's probably the coolest sport ever.

Just a few ideas. :D

On the less adventurous end of the spectrum I'd say grab some of the games they haven't released over here or are just too adult to be released. I'd probably end up spending my entire trip in the entertainment districts, no not -that- entertainment -_-' But yeah, stick it to the publishers and the ESRB!

Oh and try to bring back one of those giant robots they keep around there, I'm sure customs would be totally cool with it.

Re: What to do in Japan

Hot Springs. Bar. Hot Springs. Sushi restaurant. Hot Springs. Beach. Hot Springs. Temples. Hot Springs.

Did I mention Hot Springs?

:D

Seriously though, visit the Temples and the countryside. They're beautiful.
Also, like Archer said, grab some games there that you can't get anywhere else.
Whatever you do, though, don't forget to find a Hot Springs and attempt to peek over/through the wall. :p
