What's new

Re: Hate Thread

I hate sunburns. On a related note, I also hate the fact that I'm too stupid to reapply sunscreen when I go on a fishing trip. I put it on the first day when I'm out on the water, but as soon as I reach the campsite "herp derp I'm good, I don't need it for just heading to the beach."

Re: Hate Thread

I hate Megatron. Your second in command can only fail you so many times before you fire him. What's more, openly challenging your authority at every turn should expedite this. What's more still, screwing up once a mission should further expedite this. I don't hate Starscream, I find his complete lack of leadership and ability combined with his massive incompetence is actually quite funny. But Megatron should know better, goddammit.

Re: Hate Thread

I fucking hate weeaboo's. I was searching around for a torrent for Digimon Adventures 02, preferably the English dub and when looking through the comments section to see if it was dubbed or subbed because it wasn't stated in the torrent information section I saw this; 'Learn the language you dopes. The English dubs make me retch every time I hear them. If you are interested in anime, original Japanese language is the only way to go. Otherwise, give it up and allow the medium to return to true otaku.'

It's anime fans like this that make me rage.

Re: Hate Thread

Alright, I have no serious intention of learning Japanese, but the majority of dubs do suck ass. The voice acting is horrible*, you can't trust them not to fuck with the script...

* Alright, you managed to get Crispin Freeman for your dub. Awesome. But he and the handful of others who do it well do not make up for the 5 other characters in your dub who can't voice act.

Re: Hate Thread

Yeah I know, it just pisses me off that some people think that if you dont watch anime in Japanese then you shouldn't be watching it at all. I do generally watch anime subbed, but thats not because I prefer it to be in Japanese, it's because it's not dubbed yet. Though yes, admittedly most dubs do sound like shit but that doesn't mean there aren't good ones.

Yeah, true. I can think of a few; Hellsing, Slayers... probably some others I don't recall off the top of my head.

Re: Hate Thread

I actually didn't mind the original Hellsing anime dub. Mostly because I saw it as being serious-cheesy anyway. From what I've heard from small pieces of episodes the dub for Gurren Lagann is god awful. And most 1980's-1990's anime is, well.... I dont think there is a word to discribe how awful it is.

Re: Hate Thread

I prefer dubs not because it detracts from the show to have to read the subtitles. I WATCH anime, not READ it. Reading it fast enough, while possible, is more work then I want to put into my entertainment.

Re: Hate Thread

I consider myself somewhat of a weeaboo, and at first I took offence to the whole "I hate Weeaboos" statement. Then I read the rest, and I realized that I hate those people too...

I'm interested in japanese language, culture, and pretty much anything japanese. I'm not obsessed with it to the point where I think it is the best. Always. In fact, they do some fucked up shit, but that's what makes it interesting. Anyways.

TLDR: I'm a weeaboo, but I agree.

Re: Hate Thread

Okay, maybe I was generalising there, let me rephrase; I hate fucktardedly obsessed weeaboo's who jizz over anything and everything Japanese. And especially the ones who use random phrases they picked up from anime and randomly speckle their conversations with their inane bullshit.

I'll admit there are some things I'd gladly weeboo over *coughfullmetalalchemistcough* but I wont go out of my way to learn Japanese just so I can watch anime in its 'purest' form. I knew a person who had a rage fit whenever anyone called anime or manga cartoons or comics and we'd all say it to him just to see his reaction. Sure, thats childish but people should learn to chill the fuck out.

One of my friends constantly says 'Am I kawaii uguu?' to me because he knows it pisses me off, and he's even photoshopped my head on various anime characters and put badly shopped makeup on me saying it just to send to me.

Re: Hate Thread

The only real part of Japanese culture I've been overly interested in is Feudal Japan. I've always found the period quite interesting, and my favorite book about the times is from a western author: 'Shogun' by James Clavell.

Re: Hate Thread

What are they, fucking japanglish? Anyone who mixes words and phrases like that deserves a good boot to the head.

I mean, if you want to respect their culture, that's fine. Even if you really have no claim in their culture at all, but decide to use it and disregard the one you were raised into is fine too. But by throwing things together like that isn't respectful to either culture, and it's not any healthy form of assimilation or pride in it.

Re: Hate Thread

Just to add a tiny tid-bit into the gargantuan vortex of Hatred that's formed in some distant land...

Fleas. Hot summer, rainless days afterword makes a fantastic time for fleas migrating indoors here.

Repeatedly spraying my room and the house with Raid, then hoovering up the place. No matter how many I kill more pop up like Rabbits on a mission.

Getting annoyed at being a blood-buffet for Fleas on top of typical low-moods.

*Slithers out.*

Re: Hate Thread

On the weeaboo thing, I'll add that I dislike the term being misused. people can go ahead and call someone an anifag or whatever other stupid insult some might think of, but shouldn't assume just because someone mentions anything Japanese or even expresses a strong like for something from Japan, that they are a weeaboo. It's like calling everyone that owns a play-station, Japanese bike/car, or any of the other millions of Japanese electronics that nearly every home is full of a weeaboo. For the annoying ones that deserve the name, paddle them plenty.

On the subtitle/dub thing, you just need to know which ones are "safe". There are certainly plenty of decent and good ones. But with no elitism intended, the large majority of dubs, honestly are frequently poorly done. Some are just god awful. My real issue though isn't actually with dubs at all, but more the western release versions that they are made for. It's the western publishers incessant insistence on making bizarre changes to the script and content of the anime that I hate. I don't know much Japanese myself, but even I know that when I hear a character exclaim "Oni chan!" and jump away from some zombies in fear, that the subtitles reading "Holy shit!" are plain wrong.

Thing's like that in certain episodes of pokemon, they have characters refering to riceballs as doughnuts, or edit in a badly drawn sandwich over the top of them in another, yet change nothing in other episodes, is just ridiculous. As if the viewers would be so damaged over the concept of rice shaped in a ball that it had to be censored.

That in the US version of Card Captors, one character lost 60% of his screen time in the second half of the series, because he was gay. And that another side character was virtually cut altogether because she didn't contribute to the action scenes.

Or in One Piece where all firearms were replaced with super soakers, poison darts changed to poison sucker dart, 90% of blood was edited out, the word wine was censored as "grape juice", a major death scene was skipped and shrugged off saying that the person was merely "taken way", and an entire plot arc was removed altogether for the sole purpose of getting to a character sooner who had been selling lots of merchandise.

This is why dub or sub, I rarely buy DVDs. Simply because western publishers are meddling ass hats that can't be trusted. Fan subs are frequently the only way to actually watch something without wondering what the US executives feel you don't want to see.

Re: Hate Thread

I think it's because while many animes are targetted towards a teenager and above audience, the US publishers (can't speak for Europe and Canada gets its anime from the States) I guess feel they should be targetted towards youth. I don't know why...

I still don't grasp what the big deal is with homosexual couples either. I don't understand why they have to be pulled out or simply sold as very close cousins or something.
